STAMPING TIPS FROM KIM:

After embossing the background stamp, I applied the ink with a sponge.  I always start the sponge off the paper and then move onto the paper.  I find this removes having a really dark spot where you first place the sponge. 

I put a piece of Early Espresso cardstock underneath the sentiment and then used Stampin’ Dimensionals to apply the sentiment.  This creates a nice shadow effect for the card.

Stampin' Up! Sizzlits Paper Doily Sneak Peek

Incredible definition and stunning results!  Today's post shares a sneak peek at the Large Paper Doily Sizzlits Die, which will be available when the Occasions Mini Catalog is released Jan. 4, 2012. I was fortunate as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator to receive it as a gift at Founder's Circle.  At 4" in diameter, this doily will actually work with a saucer and teacup!  However, I'm totally digging a variety of uses in papercrafting!

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• I cropped 1 1/4" off the right front of the card for added character.  The sentiment extends into "space," producing a striking, bold line.
• I used the Circle Scissor Plus to cut a perfect 4" Daffodil Delight Circle.  It's a colorful effect tucked behind the Basic Gray doily.
• A Whisper White 2 1/2" Circle is layered beneath the center of the doily.
• The doily's intricate design shouldn't compete with a lot of embellishments.  A single Glmmer Brad in the top right is plenty.
• Yep, the bedspread below (CB2) signaled my right brain to start creating this card!

Mojo Monday & A Paper Quilling Video Tutorial

Simple Saturday Nugget Purse and NEW Video!

 "Delicious" is the best way I can think of to describe these little Hershey's Nugget purses.  AND, they are oh, so simple to create.  To make it even easier, I created a Nugget Purse Video Tutorial to prove it.   I want to credit Nancy Riley and Tami White for sharing these little cuties on their blogs and inspiring me to make them, too!

 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS AND MEASUREMENTS:

• Cut Peach Parfait to 1 1/2" x 4 1/2"
• Cut Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper to 1 1/4" x 4 1/2" and adhere to Peach Parfait
• Score (from the top, meaning over the Designer Series Paper):  1 3/16", 2 3/16", 3 1/2" and 3 3/4"
• Use Bone Folder to set score lines.
• Add Sticky Strip to 1/4" wide area, between 3 1/2" and 3 3/4" score lines.
• Adhere 5" of Whisper White Grosgrain Ribbon to Sticky Strip.
• Fold to purse shape and use a Paper-Piercing Tool to create a hole and add a brad/punched flowers to "close" purse.

I varied the this week's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge (MOJO192) a bit.  Remember that having a sketch is a real time saver.  However, you can always add your own creative spin.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• There's something so classy about layering White on White or Vanilla on Vanilla.  I used Very Vanilla on the focal point (including the mat below) for a faux dry embossed look.
• Allow your heat tool to warm up for about 5 seconds before applying heat to your image.  That way the heat will start to melt the powder vs. blowing a few flecks around (that melt in annoying places) because the air is still cool.  An Embossing Buddy helps, too.
• A single gold brad defines the corner.
• Swap the sentiment for a bridal message.  I think the formal look of this card would be appropriate for a wedding, too.

Mojo Monday 180 Scallop Circle Card

This week's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge (MOJO180) let's you decide.  Round or Square.  I opted for round since it's out of my comfort zone but ended up a delightful foundation for pretty paper things!

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• I'm on such a Crumb Cake "bender" lately.  I even used the Crumb Cake polka dot pattern from the Neutrals Patterns Designer Series Paper Stack.  If you like simplicity in pattern, especially smaller patterns for card making, the Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper Stacks are the "bomb!"
• Sew Cute!  A needle and linen thread combined with a Paper Piercing Tool and Paper Piercing Template (Stampin' Up! Mat Pack) evolve quickly into a cross-stitch accent.
• Glimmer  Brads (Glimmer Basics) add some serious pizzazz to the bird and butterfly.  The champagne color looks dazzling with Crumb Cake.  Perhaps it was the glitz of the Oscars that influenced me :)

PPA 80 and Fun Flowers Video

A vintage look doesn't necessarily mean loads of layers.  I used Old Olive for stamping, spritzing and sponging to arrive at my version above. This week's Pals Paper Arts Challenge (PPA80) is all about dreaming up a vintage inspired card (or 3-D).  Check out the Design Team's vintage collection PLUS there's a blog candy giveaway this week for participants.

NEW VIDEO!  I originally saw this sweet and simple flower at the Stampin' Up! Leadership Conference last month.  Using the Fun Flower Bigz L Die (Occasions Mini Catalog) and the Big Shot Die Cutting Machine, it blooms before your eyes. 

Todays' WOW video exceeds a minute (my bad) but will show you how delightful it is to have the Fun Flowers die in your cardmaking toolbox.

• The Clearly For You stamp set seems custom made for a card like this.  Lots of marvelous elements that blend together.
• A sweet Trinket Key adds to the vintage feel.  Charming :)
• I sponged Old Olive Ink on the edge of everything except the card base and sentiment (but only because I didn't think of it at the time--hee hee).
• Grab your Crop-A-Dile to silently set the Metallic Eyelet.  I love the finished look an eyelet adds to the sentiment.

Mojo Monday Poppy Parade Blossom

I saw a gorgeous rug recently (wish I had taken a photo so I could share it with you).  It was black with splashes of bright red flowers and olive green leaves and vines.  Today's Mojo Monday sketch design  (MOJO175) translates that rug into my beloved rubber stamping craft!  Inspiration is truly everywhere.

The bold flower was created with the new Build a Blossom stamp set and coordinating Blossom Petals Punch (Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog--see my Occasions Mini favorites).  It was begging for a spot on this week's Mojo Monday Sketch.

 STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• Don't shelve your Wicked Fun Specialty Designer Series Paper (and other "holiday" designer paper, for that matter).  If you look a little closer, many of the patterns can be used year round--like the olive and black polka dot.
• No need to punch out all the elements of the Blossom Petals Punch when you need a single element.  Look at the punch first and decide where you want to stamp on your card stock to "reach" the closest coordinating petal on the punch.  I "fish in" and use up many of my cardstock scraps doing this!
• The Pinking Hearts Border and Corner Punches add a shot of color and a dainty trim.
• Here's an alternative clear card I created previously using this same stamp set and punch.

MOJO 174 and Rosettes "WOW" Video

When Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Ann Schach (a member of my Stampin' Pretty Pals) told me that she used Stampin' Up! Stampin' Write Markers to color the new Rosettes, I simply HAD to give it a try. Well, gang, my valentine card and today's 1 Minute to "WOW" Video Tutorial prove it works like a charm.
