Simple Saturday Topiary

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• A clean sketch, lots of white and simple elements can lead to some of the prettiest cards.
• I used the Stampin' Up! Paper-Piercing Tool to space my brads and create the little border on Pear Pizzazz.  The Paper-Piercing Template from the Mat Pack is an essential for keeping things neat.
• I inked the rectangular patterned stamp from Playful Pieces with VersaMark and stamped on Pear Pizzazz Card stock. 
• 1/2" and 3/4" circle punches were used to "shape up" the topiary. 
• A touch of Poppy Parade (man, I adore this clear red) adds a little sizzle.

Elegant Soirée Trio

It's a small sacrifice with a big return.  I carefully pulled apart one of my Stampin' Up! Whisper White Mini Square Envelopes (107309) to have an instant template (that can be used over and over).  Dotto repositionable adhesive (103305) keeps the template attached to the Designer Paper, ready for snipping.

My Paper Snips (103579) were key in navigating the curves.  Here's the inside of the cut Elegant Soirée Designer Paper.

Such a Hoot!

The new Stampin' Up! Owl Punch is a total "hoot!"  You can dress him (her) up or down or combine two for a bride and groom (I'm already dreaming how fun this would be with a little tux for the "guy" and pearls for the "gal").  The Owl Punch was a reader favorite when I published Mary's Gotta Have It Top 10!

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• I have been known to "over analyze" (AKA "obsess") over my purchases--including my wish list for Stampin' Up! products.  I can't believe I hesitated for a second (but ultimately purchased) the Woodland Walk Designer Paper.  It's absolutely smashing in real life.
• This sweet owl seems the epitome of "happiness" sitting on his little branch from the Two Step Extra Large Bird Punch.  He's popped up on a couple Stampin' Dimensionals for added oomph.
• A touch of Tangerine Tango on the heart and horizontal layer really say "zoinks" to me.  I dusted off and used my Crimper, too.  It really deserves more attention than it gets.
• Stampin' Up! Sticky Tape is key to keeping your 3-D projects together, including my Pillow Box.
• I haven't done a Splitcoaststampers Sketch Challenge (SC289) in ages.  Boy, was it nice to get back in the swing.

Mojo Monday Takes Flight

The Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge (MOJO147) earns its wings this week.  I used the Flight of the Butterfly stamp set to unite the half circle and little square elements of Julee Tilman's latest layout. 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• A skinny snippet of Pumpkin Pie card stock looks like a faux stitch (perfectly matched) on the button.
• Take your square punches to a new level. The 3/16" Corner Punch crops opposing corners to give the square a fresh, modern look.
• The perfect flag?  Fold your ribbon in half and cut on an angle (from outside angled in to the fold) to get even points.
• Experiment with color.  I used my new Stampin' Up! Color Coach (121620, p. 165) to quickly come up with this bold combination.  Isn't it great to have River Rock back?

PPA 50 Color Challenge

This little color trio oozes sophistication.  Basic Gray, So Saffron and Chocolate Chip (with a touch of More Mustard that I snuck in) look so chic combined, a good option to consider for a masculine card.   Check out the rest of the Pals Paper Arts Design Team samples and a chance at PPA Blog Candy for challenge participants!

Sneak Peek Day 7

• Friends Never Fade was my stamp set "du jour."  I inked the floral stamp in VersaMark and stamped it on Presto Patterns Specialty Designer Series Paper from the Summer Mini Catalog.
• Heat embossing  in silver really makes the floral images pop.
• So here's the magic.  Using a Brayer, I rolled Pear Pizzazz (one of the new In Colors, July 1) over the Presto Patterns Paper.  The script comes to life.
• Oooohhhh . . . how I love texture.  I used the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder on the Always Artichoke layer. For a snazzy little edge, leave the Scallop Trim Border (punch available again 7/1) hanging outside the folder when you zip it through the Big Shot.

So onward to today's sneak peek of products from the new Stampin' Up! 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog (available July 1) PLUS  a really cool tip from my friend Sandy Grupka on how to make two mini envelopes out of a single Whisper White Small Open-End Envelope (107286).

The new catty's Greenhouse Gala Designer Series Paper is the highlight of both mini cards I created today. The patterns are fresh, elegant and colorful.  Take note of the results from using a Scallop Rectangle Clearlit (new, for use with the Big Shot Die-Cut Machine) in Daffodil Delight. It provides a sweet frame for my "heartfelt thanks" sentiment. 

DON'T MISS the Daffodil Delight 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon . . . I adore the touch of white trim along the sides.

To create two mini envelopes out of the Stampin' Up! Whisper White Small Open-End Envelope, cut in half (at approximately 3 3/8").  Adhere, the open end.  You'll end up with two pockets.

Cut two 3 1/2" by 2 1/2" rectangles of designer series paper for flaps.  I rounded the corners with a Corner Rounder Punch.  Score at 1" (the long direction) and attach the 1" side to the front of the envelope.

Here's that the front overhang will look like.

• Finished envelope size:  3 1/2" x 3 3/8"

Simple Saturday Step Up

I treasure a simple card . . . the kind you can mass produce to have plenty on hand but still feel like you are sending something special and artistic. Today's Simple Saturday Card required minimal supplies and time.  Swap the sentiment to make it work for any occasion.

Simple Saturday Mini Card

Weekends tend to be very busy for my family.  I decided to devote today (and likely more Saturdays in the future) to a very simple and quick project--something that uses minimal supplies and can be accomplished in a hurry, between grocery shopping, swim meets, laundry, running to the bank, yard work--are we on the same page?

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• I get tremendous mileage out of my single color Patterns Designer Series Paper.  The mix and match patterns of Dusty Durango Designer Paper pull these 3 x 3 mini cards together in a snap.

• The Extra Large Fancy Flower Punch cropped out an instant bloom.  Woo hoo!  The punch is still available for purchase as part of the Occasions Mini Carryover List.

• Trendy Trees stamp set makes a subtle appearance via the sentiment and the swirl stamp (on the envelope and in the flower center).

• Add a touch of 3-D.  Stampin' Dimensionals (I rarely make a card without them) pop up the sentiment and flower center.

What could be more feminine and flirty than red and black patent stilettos?  This is a card I created as a member of the Splitcoast Stampers Dirty Dozen design team.

• I believe  a Masculine card can handle a touch of ribbon . . . Stampin' Up!'s Basic Gray 5/8" Satin Ribbon reminds me of a tuxedo--exceptionally "man" friendly.  I flared the ends for another simple detail.

PPA38: Cute As A Button

Are you ready to play this week's Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge (PPA38)?  Everyone is invited to join in the fun using any brand of stamping supplies.  Grab a sketch pad and check out the PPA Design Team's Stampin' Up! inspired samples, all based on Stampin' Pretty Pal Margaret Moody's layout below.

Aren't these little birds adorable with their button bodies?  It's based on an idea by Nichole Heady (Papertrey Ink) that I fell in love with.  I was so excited to discover it worked perfectly with the bird from Stampin' Up!'s Sweetheart Stamp set (available but not in any catalog - click for Sweetheart Stamp  Details) and our Designer Buttons (one each from Playground, Sherbet and Button Latte).

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• After stamping the bird in Jet Black Stazon (my favorite for black image coverage), I colored in the polka dot wing with a Basic Black Marker (so no white from the wing would show through the button hole "eye")
• Next, the bird (wing) was stamped and snipped from card stock matching the buttons (Pretty in Pink, Real Red, So Saffron). You gotta love how Stampin' Up! accessories and colors coordinate.
• Mini Glue Dots keep both the buttons and wing securely in place.  The wing covers the second button hole.
• I used the Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to doll up the Basic Black panel.
• A 1 1/4" punched square nests beautifully over colorful card stock cropped with the Stampin' Up! Scallop Square Punch.

• To create the colorful butterfly, I heat embossed Stampin' Up!'s Fine Flourish stamp (a single stamp from the Occasions Mini, p. 42) in black on White Vellum Card Stock.
• Stampin' Up!'s Stampin' Write Markers in Lavender Lace, Barely Banana and Certainly Celery added quick color to my fluttery friend.
• Color blocking gives a nice background punch but still keeps this card simple.  My Corner Rounder Punch helped define the corners.

• My card base is 4 x 4" (Whisper White) and the Scallop Square (Old Olive 4 3/8" x 4 3/8") is layered on top. 
• The large circle was created with the Circle Scissor Plus and is 3 7/16" in diameter.  Amazing how precise this tool can be!
