Mouthwatering Watermelon WOW! Video Tutorial

Delicious!  I love the bold graphic look of this watermelon stamp from Mouthwatering (Occasions Mini Catalog).  Todays 1 Minute to WOW! video tutorial shares tips for getting the perfect slice.

 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• Yummy discovery!  The watermelon image fits like a glove in the 2 1/2" Circle Punch.  Just crop with the punch and then slice off half.  No snipping required!

• The secret to those "seeds?"  Early Espresso Card Stock and the Stampin' Up! Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch. 
• The "sweet" sentiment is from Fabulous Phrases rubber stamp set.  It's my "little black dress" of sentiment essentials.
• SAVE IT!  Speaking of essentials . . . if you need a "go to" sketch for a card, this one is simple, versatile and quick.
• A COOL TIP regarding Stampin' Up! Stampin' Write Markers was shared with me by fellow demonstrator, Patti MacDermott:  The brush end has a thicker ring around the marker and the fine point end has a thinner ring.  You can figure out which end is which even if the brush images aren't showing.

STAMPIN' UP! NEWS:  Were you wondering why the summery images of Mouthwatering rubber stamp set showed up in the Occasions Mini Catalog rather than the Summer Mini?  I sure was.  Here's the scoop!   Stampin' Up! announced at the Demonstrator Leadership Conference last month that starting this year, they have eliminated the Summer Mini Catalog.  The future Holiday and Spring Minis will be bigger and last longer (5 months vs. 4, much easier on my brain).  The annual catalog (new In Colors, stamps, designer series paper--woo hoo) will start a month earlier (June 1, 2012) and the Holiday Mini will start a month earlier as well (August 1, 2012--better timing for Halloween and fall projects).  I'm really excited about this simplified schedule!  I'll provide more information as I get it!

• Crumb Cake card stock was cut to 4 1/4" x 9 1/4" and scored at 5 1/2".  I used a 3/16" Corner Punch to curve the corners of the cropped section.
• I love making patterns with punched shapes.  I cropped Chocolate Chip card stock with the Stampin' Up! Small Oval Punch.  It would be just as interesting to use circles, flowers or hearts.

Twitterpated Appreciated & A New Video, Too!

On the cusp of the 2012, I thought it would be a good time to resolve to become a little "greener" as part of my paper crafting passion.  I will be making just as many cards--most of my cards have a destination in mind.  However, what about our handmade beauties making a trip to more than one recipient?

Yes, yes . . . I have seen the episode of Seinfeld about the consequences of "regifting."  However, passing along the suggestion to resend our creations ("regifting") may be a smart way to add longevity to the "heart and soul" you transformed into paper (and one less purchase the recipient has to make the next time they need a card)!

Another Peek at You're My Type

As a Stampin' Up! demonstrator, I receive a monthly magazine that's full of creative ideas.  In this month's issue, I saw the typewriter from the "You're My Type" stamp set (available in the Occasions Mini Catalog Jan. 4) with a simple flower resting on it.  I adored the idea and had to spin my own little version!  Here's a previous sample using the same typewriter stamp.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• The Black Oval Scallop Frame helped define the "white space" of the card without giving up the simplicity.
• Large solid stamps like the typewriter, can sometimes leave an open ink area when stamped.  I enlisted a Blender Pen and a little Basic Black ink to fill in any gaps.  Layer ink gradually.  Watch my Blender Pen Ink Fix Video Tutorial to learn more.
• The tiny leaf began with a circle cropped with the circle punch from the Stampin' Up! Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack.   I "fished"  the circle back in the same punch adhered to a scrap of paper and cropped it into the leaf shape.

Stampin' Up! A Sunny Flower Birthday Card

This 5 x 5 card was created for my grandniece for a recent birthday.  I'm sure she will love the sunny colors, fun flower and, of course, the Stampin' Up! treat cup candies. 

The sentiment is my "tag" for this week's Pals Paper Arts Challenge (PPA125).  Be sure to check out what the rest of the PPA Design Team has ready to inspire you with HERE and PLAY ALONG.  Participants can use any brand of products they choose for the challenge!

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• To create the ring around the treat cup, I first cropped the Calypso Coral card stock with a 1 3/4" Circle Punch.   I then flipped my 2 1/2" Circle Punch upside down, centered and cropped the 1 3/4" "hole" left by the first punch.  Bam!  A ring!  Here's a previous video I prepared on making rings that may help you get a better visual idea!
• I attached my treat cup to a piece of card stock (buried) without adhering entirely.  I slipped the candies into the partially adhered cup and finished adhering.  Much easier this way.

Stampin' Up! Joy at Christmas

Don't you love it when stamps multi-task?  Stampin' Up! Best of Everything rubber stamps (images below) are fresh, modern and versatile for many occasions.  However, a card I received at Founder's Circle from fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Tammi Oakley, convinced me that it was adorable for the holidays, too.

Stampin' Up! Sweet Shop Gift Box Video

When my dear friend and talented fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, Kadie Labadie, created this adorable window sheet gift box at our November SW Stampers meeting, I knew I had to give it a try for our December Christmas swap.  She tells me she got the original idea from demonstrator Laurie Zoellmer's Stampin' Nut Blog. 

My version includes oodles of sneak peeks from the Occasions Mini Catalog (starts Jan. 4, 2012).  I thought it might be fun to walk you through a new product reveal with a video.  Measurements and scoring instructions are below.

 

MEASUREMENTS:

Bottom Box:  Cut card stock or DSP to 10 1/4" x 5 1/4".  Score at 1/2" and 1" on all four sides.  You'll need to cut tabs, fold in and adhere to shape the box.
Insert for Bottom Box:  Cut card stock to 3" x 10".  Score at 3 1/4", 3 3/4" and 4 1/4"
Clear Window Sheet Cover:  Cut window sheet to 8 1/4" x 8 1/2".  With the 8 1/2" side at the top of your Simply Scored Tool, score at 1/2", 3 7/8", 4 1/2" and 7 7/8"

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIP:  Scoring the Window Sheet with the Simply Scored Scoring Tool will leave a line and crease--not a defined score.  You'll need to fold it further manually to shape the sides. 

The tiny hearts on the envelope flaps were created using the Adorning Accents Textured Impressions Embossing Folders.  The big cake sticker is from Sweet Shop Designer Stickers.  Very chic and both are available Jan. 4 in the Occasions Mini Catalog.

Simple Saturday Stampin' Up! Sneak Peek

So clever.  "You're My Type" stamp set offers a bold typewriter stamp that can "roll" vintage or modern.  The sentiments are both charming and versatile for many occasions.  These rubber stamps will be available Jan. 4 when the customer sales period for the Stampin' Up! STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• Coverage can be tricky with a large solid stamp like the typewriter.  Use a Blender Pen and ink to touch up any areas where ink doesn't transfer perfectly.  Layer a bit at a time as you fill in.  Watch my quick video Blender Pen Ink Fix.
• Each strip of Sweet Shop Specialty Designer Series Paper (available Jan. 4) was cut to 1 1/4" x 5 1/4".  Love the tiny hearts.
• I used a Circle Scissor Plus and Glass Mat to create the large circles.  Whisper White diameter 3 1/4".  Riding Hood Red diameter 3 1/2".
• Tie things up with this luscious Island Indigo Baker's Twine (available Jan. 4).

Cards From My Stampin' Up! Pals

I have three gorgeous cards to share with you today that were created and sent to me by members of my demonstrator downline, the Stampin' Pretty Pals.

Dawn Tidd did a wonderful job showing off the Stampin' Up! Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper on this classy Joy-Fold Card (both photos above).  Check out Dawn's blog!  Here are a few tips and measurements for creating your own Joy-Fold Card.

Texture and coloring are Ginger Toivonen's forte.  This giraffe ( Zoo Review stamp set) is a handsome dude.  The sentiment is stamped on Stampin' Up! Wood Sheets.

Nancy Gleason combined a luscious mix of Calypso Coral, Basic Gray and Very Vanilla in her simple but striking design.  I love how she used the Oval Punch as a vase.  Click to visit Nancy's blog.

Mojo 215 & NEW 1 Minute to WOW! Video

A snazzy embossed background can define a pretty card.  I added VersaMark Ink to the inside of my Elegant Lines Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  The result?  An artful richness that makes the embossing come alive.  Today's 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial shows you the super simple procedure!

 

This week's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge (MOJO215) jumpstarted the ideas for my card design. 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• The layered butterfly combines a crop from the Beautiful Butterflies Bigz Die (Lucky Limeade) and the Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die.  Did you notice that these little beauties nest perfectly?  I used a touch of VersaMark on the edges for definition.
• To keep the card simple, I used  Stampin' Up! Printed Designer Brads in two different spots, merely changing the colors.  A huge benefit of using Stampin' up! products is that it's so easy to coordinate within color collections.
• Stampin' Up! Builder Punches get amazing mileage.  The two stems are from the Bird Builder Punch.
• Solid Versamark coverage on the finished background looks lovely.  However, I think the effect of an uneven inking is an even more engaging effect.  Take a look at this background before I added the embellishments.

STAMPING TIPS FROM KIM:

After embossing the background stamp, I applied the ink with a sponge.  I always start the sponge off the paper and then move onto the paper.  I find this removes having a really dark spot where you first place the sponge. 

I put a piece of Early Espresso cardstock underneath the sentiment and then used Stampin’ Dimensionals to apply the sentiment.  This creates a nice shadow effect for the card.

Clean and Simple Stampin' Up! Style

Concord Crush is such a luscious deep blue with a twist of purple.  The "inky blue" contrast with Whisper White is so striking--perfect for today's clean and simple card.
