PPA "Any Red" & Framelits Candy Holder WOW! Video

Pick a red, any red!  That's the new Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge (PPA128), perfect timing with Valentine's Day on the horizon.  Use red in any way on a card, upload to a blog or public gallery (for example, Splitcoaststampers) and share the link on the Pals Paper Arts challenge blog.   Perhaps you'll be selected as one of the PPA Design Team Top Picks!  Check out our picks from the last challenge.

The über easy candy holder was created using the Stampin' Up! Labels Collections Framelits and a few tips from Shelli Gardner (CEO and Co-Founder of Stampin' Up!) at Leadership last month.  I tucked in a candy bar wrapped in Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper (exclusive to the Sale-A-Bration Promotion).  As an alternative, you could use a cello bag and fill with candy, little love notes, heart confetti--HAVE FUN AND EXPERIMENT!

 

This 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial is a little over 4 minutes long . . . however, the process of creating the two pieces for the holder takes less than a minute.  Decorate to your "heart's" delight!

Yes, I cropped the 1/2" Poppy Parade circles for the back, too!

My wheels began to spin with ideas and I came up with a little "doctor's bag" to hold a get well treat.  I cropped the handle with the Stampin' Up! Large Oval Punch.  Basic Black Textured Paper gives a "leather finish" . . . but embossing Basic Black card stock with the Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (119976) would be a very "impressive" option, too!

The sweet little 3 x 3 card is a splashy way to add a romantic message. I cropped the front at 2 3/8".   I used one of the Hearts Collection Framelits Dies, new in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog, to produce the patterned (largest) heart.

Clever Mini "Magazine" Holder

My dear friend and fellow Stampin' Up! demonstrator, Kadie Labadie, has an incredible knack for cards and 3-D items.  I love this clever paper project she gave to me for my birthday (last November).

Quick Color Block Video Tutorial

Let's kick off Thursday with a Stampin' Pretty 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial!  Today's video shares a quick and easy color blocking technique used for my bitty box sentiment.

The key to my color blocking technique?  Don't toss the removable centers of your stamps.  They make versatile stamps, too!  The "stamp" used to color block the sentiment on the box is the "throw away" center of the Elementary Elegance frame stamp (available Jan. 24 as part of the Stampin' Up! Sale-A-Bration Promotion).

• Everything (cards and envies) fits neatly in the bitty box. The belly band on the box slips on and off for easy access to the cards and envelopes.

Stampin' Up! Sweet Shop Gift Box Video

When my dear friend and talented fellow Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, Kadie Labadie, created this adorable window sheet gift box at our November SW Stampers meeting, I knew I had to give it a try for our December Christmas swap.  She tells me she got the original idea from demonstrator Laurie Zoellmer's Stampin' Nut Blog. 

My version includes oodles of sneak peeks from the Occasions Mini Catalog (starts Jan. 4, 2012).  I thought it might be fun to walk you through a new product reveal with a video.  Measurements and scoring instructions are below.

 

MEASUREMENTS:

Bottom Box:  Cut card stock or DSP to 10 1/4" x 5 1/4".  Score at 1/2" and 1" on all four sides.  You'll need to cut tabs, fold in and adhere to shape the box.
Insert for Bottom Box:  Cut card stock to 3" x 10".  Score at 3 1/4", 3 3/4" and 4 1/4"
Clear Window Sheet Cover:  Cut window sheet to 8 1/4" x 8 1/2".  With the 8 1/2" side at the top of your Simply Scored Tool, score at 1/2", 3 7/8", 4 1/2" and 7 7/8"

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIP:  Scoring the Window Sheet with the Simply Scored Scoring Tool will leave a line and crease--not a defined score.  You'll need to fold it further manually to shape the sides.

Saturday Stamping with a Couple of Pals

I have two fun folded projects to share today, created by members of my Stampin' Up! group, the Stampin' Pretty Pals.  A few of the products are retired so please use your imagination to create your very own version.

The first project (above and below) is by Debra Simonis.  What a snazzy way to create a quick photo album!

Stampin' Up! Directions:  Begin with a 10" x 5" piece of card stock.  Score at 1 1/4" from the bottom edge and fold it up to create the pocket.  Then score and fold lengthwise at 2 1/2" intervals.

Debra's Tips:   I was going to make a button closure on the right side with a loop of ribbon to hold it closed, but quickly found out that nothing helped keep the left side from bulging open.   I recommend using a ribbon all around the album and tying it shut, like is shown.  Put the ribbon under the matted image on the front.  The tags can be decorated on both sides allowing for more pictures and journaling.  I cut my tags at 2 1/8” X 3 1/2”.  I did put sticky strip along the outside edge of the first and last pockets so the tags don’t fall out. 

The next project is by Sumaiyah Yates (a member of my Stampin' Pretty Pals, 2nd level).  I love that the butterfly panel is perforated so that it can double as a bookmark.

Recipe

Cut one of the colors of your cardstock to 5 1/2 x 11. Crushed Curry was used for this cut. Score this piece at 4 1/4 and 8 1/2. Use the perforating tool from the Cutter Kit to perforate the cardstock at the 8 1/2 score mark. Cut the other color of cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4 and a second piece to 2 1/4 x 5 1/4. Cut designer paper to 3 3/4 x 5 and a second piece to 2 x 5. Layer, assemble and adhere these pieces onto the card base using your Snail Adhesive. Punch a scalloped circle from the beige cardstock and ink the edges. Stamp the sentiment in the center of the scalloped circle, using a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig (101049) for placement if necessary. Adhere this to the front of the card using Stampin' Dimensionals. Stamp the image from the stamp set onto the bottom of the bookmark's top layer. Punch a butterfly from the green cardstock and ink the edges. Bend slightly so the wings "lift" from the page and adhere using a mini glue dot. Adhere 3 pebbles to the top of the designer paper using mini glue dots. Fold at score lines to complete the card.

Sumaiyah's Tips:  Give a card that can be used every day. This great little card doubles as a bookmark! The panel on the right side can be detached and is designed to be used as a bookmark. You will be able to give a keepsake -- the card -- while providing a useful tool too. Quick and easy card takes about 15 minutes to make, but it will be treasured by the receiver forever!

• My finished 4" x 4" Z-Fold card began as a  12" x 4" piece of Rich Razzleberry Textured Card Stock
• Using a Stampin' Up! Simply Scored Scoring Tool, I scored the shortest direction at 2", 4", 8" and 10".
• Pocketful of Posies Designer Series Paper is layered on each side panel (DSP cut to 1 3/4" x 3 3/4") and the interior center (DSP cut to 3 3/4" x 3 3/4").
• The Whisper White (textured card stock) belly band measures  8 1/2" x 1 1/2".  The scores are approx. 2 1/8" and 6 3/8".
• Adhere the band so that the two ends are hidden below the tree layer.
• The idea for the double z-fold card is from a tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers.

Drawer Box By Pals Guest Stamper Katy M.

 

A stunning masterpiece!  Kathy McGloin, a member of my Stampin' Pretty Pals, has me swooning over her drawer box.  Photos can barely convey the incredible details and Katy's remarkable talent.  Katy doesn't have a blog but put together detailed notes for you below.   Thanks, Katy.  Inquiring minds will want to know!

If you have a specific question or comment about Katy's project, please leave it at the end of my post.  She will be monitoring questions and responding.  Did I mention that she sent the box to me as a gift?  I keep staring at it in total awe!

Overview from Katy:  This project was inspired by a tutorial I found while perusing Splitcoaststampers’ resources and videos.   I thought it would make a great gift for a very close friend.  Since Mary provides her readers with WOW items, this seemed to be the best avenue to provide my inspiration to you. 

The Drawer Box was assembled from cardstock, decorated with Mocha Morning DSP and embellished with various flowers and ribbon.  The crochet ribbon was gathered on one side using linen thread, rolled into a loose circle and adhered to a scrap using a glue gun.  The scalloped paper flower was made from 6 pieces of 1-3/4” scallop circles – 3 from vanilla cardstock and 3 from designer paper.  Punched pieces were crumpled, misted with water and then shaped around a centered brad.  The scored DSP fan flower was placed on a doily die cut and was topped with a striped ribbon bow secured by a button and smaller ribbon.  The Top Note die cut was texturized with the Striped Embossing Folder.  The sentiment “Celebrate Today” was stamped with Early Espresso craft ink and then clear embossed.  A piece of DSP was punched using the postage stamp punch, cut in half on the diagonal and glued to the back of the sentiment.  Rosettes completed the décor. 

Using the Faux Silk technique, the stamp set “Faith in Nature” was utilized to create the notecards.  What is not apparent is the watermark on the inside of each card as well as its coordinating envelope.

 I hope this inspires you to try making the Drawer Box.  It is not a difficult project, merely time consuming.

Charming Stampin' Up! Blossom Box

I returned from the Stampin' Up! Founder's Circle retreat on Sunday feeling inspired and refreshed.  We were pampered with great food, time to relax and Stampin' Up! products and gifts.  One of the gifts was this adorable Blossom Box, created with the Stampin' Up! PPA 110 & Simply Scored Envelope Video Tutorial

Simple and spooky describe today's project.  It was both fun to make and required minimal Stampin' Up! supplies.  I also whipped up a new video tutorial sharing in more detail the Stampin' Up! Simply Scored Scoring Tool (122334) and how to create a coordinating designer envelope for a standard  4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card.

   
ENVELOPE FOR A2 (4 1/4" X 5 1/2") CARD

• Cut Designer Series Paper to 7 1/4" x 10 1/4"
• Using the Simply Scored Scoring Tool, score the long direction at 3/4" and 6 1/2'.
• Flip 90 degrees and score at 2 1/4" and 6 3/4"
• Use Paper Snips to remove four corners (see video) and create tabs.
• Adhere.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIP:   Check out this previous video on creating an envelope using the same technique for a 4 x 4 card.  Gotta love the amazing tandem of the Simply Scored Scoring Tool and Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper.

 STAMPIN' PRETTY CARD TIPS: 

• I created a little template for lining up the windows using the 1 1/4" Square Punch.
• I adhered it to Whisper White card stock using Dotto Repositionable Adhesive, lined up and recropped with the 1 1/4" Square Punch.
• The Clear Mount Version of Spooky Bingo Bits made it easy to "eyeball" and stamp through the windows.
