Mouthwatering Watermelon WOW! Video Tutorial

Delicious!  I love the bold graphic look of this watermelon stamp from Mouthwatering (Occasions Mini Catalog).  Todays 1 Minute to WOW! video tutorial shares tips for getting the perfect slice.

 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• Yummy discovery!  The watermelon image fits like a glove in the 2 1/2" Circle Punch.  Just crop with the punch and then slice off half.  No snipping required!

• The secret to those "seeds?"  Early Espresso Card Stock and the Stampin' Up! Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch. 
• The "sweet" sentiment is from Fabulous Phrases rubber stamp set.  It's my "little black dress" of sentiment essentials.
• SAVE IT!  Speaking of essentials . . . if you need a "go to" sketch for a card, this one is simple, versatile and quick.
• A COOL TIP regarding Stampin' Up! Stampin' Write Markers was shared with me by fellow demonstrator, Patti MacDermott:  The brush end has a thicker ring around the marker and the fine point end has a thinner ring.  You can figure out which end is which even if the brush images aren't showing.

STAMPIN' UP! NEWS:  Were you wondering why the summery images of Mouthwatering rubber stamp set showed up in the Occasions Mini Catalog rather than the Summer Mini?  I sure was.  Here's the scoop!   Stampin' Up! announced at the Demonstrator Leadership Conference last month that starting this year, they have eliminated the Summer Mini Catalog.  The future Holiday and Spring Minis will be bigger and last longer (5 months vs. 4, much easier on my brain).  The annual catalog (new In Colors, stamps, designer series paper--woo hoo) will start a month earlier (June 1, 2012) and the Holiday Mini will start a month earlier as well (August 1, 2012--better timing for Halloween and fall projects).  I'm really excited about this simplified schedule!  I'll provide more information as I get it!

PPA "Any Red" & Framelits Candy Holder WOW! Video

Pick a red, any red!  That's the new Pals Paper Arts Color Challenge (PPA128), perfect timing with Valentine's Day on the horizon.  Use red in any way on a card, upload to a blog or public gallery (for example, Splitcoaststampers) and share the link on the Pals Paper Arts challenge blog.   Perhaps you'll be selected as one of the PPA Design Team Top Picks!  Check out our picks from the last challenge.

The über easy candy holder was created using the Stampin' Up! Labels Collections Framelits and a few tips from Shelli Gardner (CEO and Co-Founder of Stampin' Up!) at Leadership last month.  I tucked in a candy bar wrapped in Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper (exclusive to the Sale-A-Bration Promotion).  As an alternative, you could use a cello bag and fill with candy, little love notes, heart confetti--HAVE FUN AND EXPERIMENT!

 

This 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial is a little over 4 minutes long . . . however, the process of creating the two pieces for the holder takes less than a minute.  Decorate to your "heart's" delight!

Yes, I cropped the 1/2" Poppy Parade circles for the back, too!

My wheels began to spin with ideas and I came up with a little "doctor's bag" to hold a get well treat.  I cropped the handle with the Stampin' Up! Large Oval Punch.  Basic Black Textured Paper gives a "leather finish" . . . but embossing Basic Black card stock with the Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (119976) would be a very "impressive" option, too!

The sweet little 3 x 3 card is a splashy way to add a romantic message. I cropped the front at 2 3/8".   I used one of the Hearts Collection Framelits Dies, new in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog, to produce the patterned (largest) heart.

"Got Love" for a soft and pretty Valentine's Day Card?   Today's Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge (MOJO226), is a perfect starting point.  Round or Square?  You decide and have fun!

• Stampin' Up! Nursery Nest Designer Series Paper (DSP) goes "beyond baby."  It's charming for birthdays and valentines, too.
• Those sweet "scallops on the scallops" were created using one of the Adorning Accents Edgelits Dies (new in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog).

• Marina Mist1/8" Taffeta Ribbon slips through the button holes for a polished finish.  Watch my demonstrator tutorial for tips.
• I pulled a few stitches at each end of the Blushing Bride Pleated Satin Ribbon (Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog) so that it would be easier to adhere and wrap flat.
• My square version of today's Mojo Sketch measures 5 x 5".  A coordinating pattern from Nursery Nest DSP jazzes up the flap of the 5.5" Whisper White Medium Square Envelope.  Just adhere DSP to the flap and carefully snip away the excess with Paper Snips.

MOJO 225 & New WOW! Video

Let's start the week with a new Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge (MOJO225) and 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial.  Today's card is for one of my Stampin' Pretty Pals and grandma to-be.  I thought the sentiment (Stampin Up! Sweetly Said rubber stamps) was the perfect way to say congrats!

Learn how to make a charming Scallop Trim Square with my 1 Minute to WOW Video Tutorial!  REMEMBER!  Start with a 1 15/16" square for the best results!

 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• Punch happy!  I used not only the Scallop Trim Corner Punch, I grabbed the 1 3/8" Circle, Heart to Heart and 3/16" Corner Punch to create this card.

• Bring in the reinforcements!  With the added weight of the punched layers, my Whisper White card base was struggling to stand up.  I "lined" the interior with Baja Breeze card stock and used my Bone Folder to reset the score.  Not only was it a sweet detail, my card is proudly standing at attention.

• DON'T MISS the sweet Twitterpated Designer Buttons (Occasions Mini Catalog) in Blushing Bride and Baja Breeze.  Keep them in place with Stampin' Up! Mini Glue Dots.
• A touch of Twitterpated Designer Series Paper on the Medium Square Envelope flap completes the look.

NEW PPA Sketch & 1 Minute to WOW! Video

The retro vibe of the Sweet Cake stamp set immediately caught my attention in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog.  It was a simple element to employ on this week's Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge (PPA127) by Margaret Moody.  Get inspired by the sketch and play along this week.  All brands of products are welcome and we now offer a week for you to play!

I popped up the sentiment in a snap using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool.  Watch my new 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial (below) to learn how. 

 

ABOUT THE  MUSIC:  I have had oodles of emails and comments from you asking about the music I play during my videos.  Honestly, it's just a 25 second snippet of Spanish guitar that I purchased on-line so that I wouldn't infringe on any copyrights.  Glad you enjoy it!

 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• Large solid stamp images can sometimes need a little "nip tuck."  I used a Blender Pen and touch of Basic Black Ink to fill in a few areas that needed a bit more coverage.  Watch my Blender Pen Ink Fix Tutorial.
• And the "cherry" on the top?  I used a Red Sharpie Marker to turn one of the new Large Pearl Basic Jewels from white to red in seconds.  Works for Rhinestones Basic Jewels, too.  Want to see it in action?  Click here for my Coloring Rhinestones  demonstrator video tutorial.
• I embossed mini hearts onto a piece of Poppy Parade card stock using the Adorning Accents Textured Impressions Embossing Folders (Occasions Mini Catalog).  It's a splashy detail for the envelope flap.

Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge #216 should get your stamping ideas flowing.  I used Stampin' Up! Pool Party Textured Card Stock for the horizontal strips.  The combination of Pool Party, Cherry Cobbler and Basic Black are so crisp and "wintery" together, especially against Whisper White.  Consider a trio of pretty designer series paper patterns as an alternative . . .

• Layering Whisper White on top of a Whisper White card base (4 1/4 x 5 1/2) is a quick way to create a "faux emboss"  look.

Smooth "Snail-ing" & New WOW! Video!

Nothing can be more frustrating than inking up a solid stamp and ending up with less than perfect coverage on your card stock.  At times, a little image imperfection can look vintage and chic.  However, I typically like a crisp and complete image.  Today's 1 Minute to WOW! Video Tutorial shares a simple way to use a Stampin' Up! Blender Pen to "fill in" the gaps without having to start over (including a before and after sample).

 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS: 

• For better coverage with background and solid stamps, I prefer to flip the stamp rubber up and add ink with the pad facing down.  I keep "patting" ink on the rubber image until I can see that it is evenly covered.  Here's the snail stamped with this method.  No touch up required :)
• I have tried to use a marker to touch-up uneven images.  However, the markers can leave a dark, noticeable spot where you have corrected.  The Blender Pen remedy is a softer look that you can control.

Saturday Stamping with a Couple of Pals

I have two fun folded projects to share today, created by members of my Stampin' Up! group, the Stampin' Pretty Pals.  A few of the products are retired so please use your imagination to create your very own version.

The first project (above and below) is by Debra Simonis.  What a snazzy way to create a quick photo album!

Stampin' Up! Directions:  Begin with a 10" x 5" piece of card stock.  Score at 1 1/4" from the bottom edge and fold it up to create the pocket.  Then score and fold lengthwise at 2 1/2" intervals.

Debra's Tips:   I was going to make a button closure on the right side with a loop of ribbon to hold it closed, but quickly found out that nothing helped keep the left side from bulging open.   I recommend using a ribbon all around the album and tying it shut, like is shown.  Put the ribbon under the matted image on the front.  The tags can be decorated on both sides allowing for more pictures and journaling.  I cut my tags at 2 1/8” X 3 1/2”.  I did put sticky strip along the outside edge of the first and last pockets so the tags don’t fall out. 

The next project is by Sumaiyah Yates (a member of my Stampin' Pretty Pals, 2nd level).  I love that the butterfly panel is perforated so that it can double as a bookmark.

Recipe

Cut one of the colors of your cardstock to 5 1/2 x 11. Crushed Curry was used for this cut. Score this piece at 4 1/4 and 8 1/2. Use the perforating tool from the Cutter Kit to perforate the cardstock at the 8 1/2 score mark. Cut the other color of cardstock to 4 x 5 1/4 and a second piece to 2 1/4 x 5 1/4. Cut designer paper to 3 3/4 x 5 and a second piece to 2 x 5. Layer, assemble and adhere these pieces onto the card base using your Snail Adhesive. Punch a scalloped circle from the beige cardstock and ink the edges. Stamp the sentiment in the center of the scalloped circle, using a Stamp-A-Ma-Jig (101049) for placement if necessary. Adhere this to the front of the card using Stampin' Dimensionals. Stamp the image from the stamp set onto the bottom of the bookmark's top layer. Punch a butterfly from the green cardstock and ink the edges. Bend slightly so the wings "lift" from the page and adhere using a mini glue dot. Adhere 3 pebbles to the top of the designer paper using mini glue dots. Fold at score lines to complete the card.

Sumaiyah's Tips:  Give a card that can be used every day. This great little card doubles as a bookmark! The panel on the right side can be detached and is designed to be used as a bookmark. You will be able to give a keepsake -- the card -- while providing a useful tool too. Quick and easy card takes about 15 minutes to make, but it will be treasured by the receiver forever!
