And they call it Poppy Love . . . This sweet little bowser was dipped In Poppy Parade and stamped on Whisper White card stock.  He looks quite dashing on this long and skinny card (5 3/4" x 3 1/4").  A few embellishments later and you have a Simple Saturday card.

Baby Steps

 

Yep, they're incredibly cute.  The sweet elephants on the Baby Steps single stamp were a delightful choice for my Top 10 Favorites from the new Idea Book and Catalog.  I grabbed Stampin' Up! Whisper White notecards and envelopes set for a fun, gift sized card (5 x 3 1/2").

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• I love buttons . . . I bought every color in the new Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalog.  Although many button colors match our card stock and accessories, don't be afraid to experiment . . . for example, an Old Olive button is quite at home with Pear Pizzazz.
• Ink up the elephant ears a second time, snip and pop them up on Stampin' Dimensionals.  Sweet.
• Need to celebrate twins?  Use markers to just ink up the baby elephant and stamp a second baby in the line-up.
• Nursery Suite Specialty Designer Series Paper offers fresh, colorful patterns and die-cut paper.  I used a snippet of the die-cut paper for the scallop border.  Cool, yes? 
• The little punched out areas of the die-cut paper could be perfect raindrops . . . hang on to them for a rainy day!

A Little Halloween Mojo

What a sweetie!  I love this bewitching little cutie sittin' pretty on a pumpkin.  I even kept my New Year's resolution to attempt water coloring this year.  OK, it's July . . . but it's still 2010, right?  

So which water coloring method did I use?  I tried several (and my trash bin contains proof that they weren't all a good fit--LOL).  However,  I settled on using my Stampin' Up! Stampin' Write Markers and an Aqua Painter to bring my little witch to life.  Here's a tutorial from Splitcoaststampers with details on How to Use Stampin' Up! Markers to Watercolor.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• BIG TIP:  Allow neighboring colors to dry before water coloring "next door."  You can always use a heat tool (100005) to speed the drying process.
• Note the shadowing on the left side of the witch and pumpkin to add depth and enhance the watercolor effect.  That's a touch of Sahara Sand . . . a tip I learned from my Stampin' Pretty Pals Ann Schach and Melissa Young.
• This card is 5 1/4" square.  It fits "juuuuuust right, Goldilocks"  inside a Stampin' Up! Medium Square Envelope (107289).
• Gotta love the touch of bling the Stampin' Up! stick-on Jewels Basic Rhinestones provide.
• I sponged VersaMark on the edges of the card base using a Sponge Dauber.  Start OFF the card (with scratch paper below your project) and work toward and onto the card edges in a circular motion.

Elegant Soirée Trio

TO MAKE THE DESIGNER ENVELOPE . . .

It's a small sacrifice with a big return.  I carefully pulled apart one of my Stampin' Up! Whisper White Mini Square Envelopes (107309) to have an instant template (that can be used over and over).  Dotto repositionable adhesive (103305) keeps the template attached to the Designer Paper, ready for snipping.

The New Kids on the Block

Remember my "Gotta Have It" post from last week?  The blog candy drawing is over and the goodies are on their way to the winner.  However, it's time to put my Top 10 favorite products from the new Stampin' Up! Idea Book and Catalog into action and share some inspiration. 

Let's kick things off with one of my favorite stamp sets:  Greeting Card Kids.  It's vintage holiday with a nostalgic vibe.  The images are amazing solo or water colored to story book perfection.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• The sweet sentiment is from a new set called A Word for You.  It's just the right size for a sentiment or grab your markers and isolate the "happy birthday" font  for the front and tuck "with a cherry on top!" inside.  All the stamps in the set can multi-task this way!
• I flicked the edges of my focal point on a Cherry Cobbler ink pad.  This creates a touch of dimension and adds to the vintage feel. 
• Crumb Cake (the color formerly known as Kraft--any Prince fans?) works beautifully with almost any color you can pair it with. 
• I used Crumb Cake Ink to dress up the envelope flap with the Punch Potpourri stamp set.  The same set was used (Cherry Cobbler Ink on Cherry Cobbler card stock) for the card background.

Mojo Monday 140

Here's the "scoop!"  Today's Mojo Monday sketch by Julee Tilman (MOJO140) can easily go from elegant to a bit wild and crazy, like this Sweet Scoops card for my grandniece, Melina.  I was clearly in the mood to play with punches and polka dots!

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• My Sweet Scoops sentiment inked in Whisper White Craft Ink left a beautiful, soft impression on Melon Mambo card stock.  Love it!
• The texture on the ice cream scoop (Sweet Scoops, Summer Mini Catalog) started with a "kiss."  Click here to learn how simple the Kissing Technique is (and view another Sweet Scoops sample).
• I used a retired Stampin' Up! 1/4" hole punch for all the tiny circles except the flower center (top right of the ice cream cone).  That's when I discovered I could have used the new Circle Punch from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack (an adorable punch trio in the Summer Mini Catalog) for the whole thing.  Can you say "senior moment?"  It's a hint larger than 1/4" but would have been "just right," Goldilocks.
• The seriously cool matching clear Bitty Button gets dressed up with a sliver of Tempting Turquoise card stock as coordinating "thread." 
• The envelope flap comes to life with a Tempting Turquoise Polka Dot Pattern from Island Oasis Designer Series Paper (Summer Mini Catalog).  The Scallop Edge Punch gives it a flirty finish.

Neopolitan Ice Cream

Remember scooping up Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla ice cream all in one bite?  I was in awe of the beauty and engineering of those delicious Neopolitan stripes and translated it into today's card.   Here's some trivia on Neopolitan ice cream.  I assume it's still around?

Sweet Scoops for Mojo Monday

This week's Mojo Monday sketch (MOJO137) made my heart pump in technicolor.  I loved Julee's layout suggestion to create a vertical stack of blocked colors.  I'm never shy of color and Tempting Turquoise (the ultimate for Blue Moon ice cream), Pumpkin Pie and Not Quite Navy offer a bright and fun way to surprise my soon-to-be six year old grand nephew, Ashtin.

I used the reverse kissing technique to create texture for the ice cream cone.  I simply inked up the ice cream stamp from Sweet Scoops stamp set (now available for purchase from the Summer Mini Catalog) and then "kissed" it, directly to the rubber with the texture stamp.

Here's a little before and after.  See the delicious difference?

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• The background texture is absolutely luscious.  It was created using the Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing folder, new from the Summer Mini (a Stampin' Up! exclusive).  
• I used a 1 1/4" Square Punch to create even blocks for the vertical row of color.  1 1/4" was too big at full size so I cropped them to 1" x 1 1/4".
• For added pizzazz, I layered the smaller star over the larger with a Stampin' Dimensional.  I don't know if I ever create a card without my budget-friendly Stampin' Dimensionals.
• Add a little splash to your sentiments by popping up one of the words in a contrasting color.

Small Wonder

The last two weeks have been difficult--full of sadness and disbelief over the loss of my sister-in-law.  I can't begin to tell you how much your caring comments and emails mean to me.  However, something really wonderful happened, too.  My nephew and his wife announced that they are expecting their first baby--truly a "small wonder" at a time when a happy moment is good medicine.

Happy Valentine's Day!  I have a delicious treat for you today!  Meet Regina Mangum, one of my Stampin' Pretty Pals.  It's her turn to strut her artistic stuff today on my Stampin' Pretty blog.  She was also this week's Pals Paper Arts Featured Stamper.  See it now!

I know it's Valentine's Day, but I just had to make a card for my cousin, who just received the wonderful news that she is expecting a baby girl and so I really wanted to make her a card to help celebrate her soon-to-arrive bundle of joy. Also, I just got a new sewing machine (I have NO idea how to sew, so I was a bit frightened of using it!) and wanted to try it out on something simple. For this card, I used the sweet images from Picnic Parade and colored with Stampin' Write markers. I popped out the adorable bunny over some "grass" created with the Scallop Border Punch. For the "baby" sentiment on the flag, I stamped with the new Tiny Tags clear-mount stamp and acrylic blocks, which made the fit an absolute breeze.

Build-A-Bear Single Ladies

Whether you prefer Beyonce's or Justin Timberlake's Saturday Night Live version of "Single Ladies," these charming Build-A-Bear "single ladies" are strutting their stuff today.  Since the Grammy Awards aired, this song relentlessly runs through my head . . . "oh, oh, oh," here we go again . . . "All the Single Ladies, All the Single Ladies . . . "

Whenever I use the Stampin' Up! Build-A-Bear dies, I feel like a kiddo assembling paper dolls.  It's great fun to mix and match designer paper, clothing and accessories.  Each card today makes a "fashion statement" and is personalized for my grandnieces, Melina and Eleni.  Let's start with Melina's card today.  I'll share Eleni's details tomorrow.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• A light bulb moment for me!  I realized I could snip out the house from Welcome Neighbor Designer Series (a Sale-A-Bration free gift) and "open" the door.  It's the perfect scale next to my bear for a play house.
• Layering over the Top Note Die (in Bermuda Bay Textured Card Stock), gives a zippy contrast.
• Small designer series prints work beautifully to mirror fabric.  To dress my bear, I used a wee heart pattern from Welcome Neighbor Designer Series Paper (shirt) and a polka dot from Bermuda Bay Designer Series (skirt).
• Need a quick hat?  I adhered Large and Small Ovals of Pumpkin Pie card stock with a couple Stampin' Dimensionals.  A flower (Boho Blossoms Punch) and bling (Circle Rhinestone Brad), complete the look.

Build-A-Roo Valentine

It looked like a crime scene in my Stampin' Pretty Zone today.  Real Red everywhere and a frantic woman bouncing off the walls . . . oh, wait that was me! 

Today I decided to figure out how to combine the new Pinking Heart Border Punch and Pinking Heart Corner Punch (both in the Occasions Mini) to make a large square.  Let's just say it didn't go well.  Engineering isn't my forte.

TIP:  Save yourself the time, frustration and lots of card stock by going to Gretchen Barron's Pinking Hearts Tutorial before attempting this combo.  The key is starting with one of her recommended sizes and cropping the corners first.

I loved Gretchen's Scallop Trim Border Tutorial (it was a snap in my previous project) but didn't realize that she had new advice on using the Pinking Heart Punch.  Once I gave it a try, my breathing returned, I cleaned up a mountain of tiny red hearts and Real Red scraps and managed my first Pinking Heart square for today's card (based on Gretchen's 4" size). 

Honestly, it's a bit tricky . . . you  need to be precise because of the scale of the teeny heart.  My result isn't perfect but I'm excited about the look and will keep practicing.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• Heat embossing with White Embossing Powder made the kangaroo and flowers really pop.  I tucked a Stampin' Dimensional below the flowers for added impact.
• The new satin ribbon in the Occasions Mini is stunning.  It comes in nine colors, including the yummy Real Red I used today.
• I stamped the sentiment in Real Red.  To give it a clean crop, I punched out below the arch with a 1 1/4" Circle Punch and then the top with a 1 3/4" Circle Punch.
• To avoid brad legs showing on the interior of the card (a pet peeve), I snipped them off and attached the Real Red Epoxy Brads with a couple Stampin' Dimensionals.

Sneak Peek Fox & Friends

This sweet and "foxy" card is destined for my grand niece but would be a delightful birthday or "love" card for any age.  I used Stampin' Up!'s Fox & Friends clear mount stamps (available Jan. 5 in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog).  The space saving dvd-sized container that the clear mount stamps arrive in is shown below with the additional images.  Cutie, yes?

The "love you much" sentiment is from Well Scripted (Occasions Mini), one of the prettiest combination of stamp fonts around--versatile and also clear mount.  Both the stamp sets used today will also be available in traditional wood mount.  See the Well Scripted image collection below.

PPA5 Sweet and Easy Halloween Treats

Need to make goodies for a classroom or Halloween party?  These Halloween ideas are quick and fun. My Sweet Centers stamp set and Sweet Treat Cups are getting fantastic mileage.  They both will be available on September 1, with the official debut of the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog. 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• I pick and choose the colors of jelly beans (or M & M's) to work with the project.  A delightful excuse to eat the rest :)
• To keep the lollipop sticks in place, I used a Pop-Up Glue Dot first and squished in the stick.  A coordinating piece of card stock is adhered on top.  The covered back looks more polished.
• The "pencil box" is a Pillow Box Die, with the curved flaps on one end removed for an opening.  Very easy to snip along the score lines.
• The Metal Edge Tag was the perfect spot to display the "center" part of the Sweet Treats stamp that gets cropped out for the treat cup.  I layered text from the other remaining centers for a colorful combo.

Today marks the final Mojo Monday 100th anniversary sketch celebration.  This MOJOMARY sketch is my very own (note that I flipped it).  What an honor to be part of Julee's Mojo Maker team and celebration!

Isn't this Build-A-Bear girl sweet?  She is simple and incredibly fun to put together, too.  Stampin' Up! has created exclusive Build-A-Bear Dies, stamp sets and coordinating designer paper for the Holiday Mini Catalog (available Sept. 1).  Be ready to say "wow!"

• The new Bigz Bear Die offers the bear die cut (4 3/4" high), facial parts (I used Whisper White and Chocolate Chip Textured) and signature Build-A-Bear heart (Pretty in Pink Textured).  TIP:  After cutting the bear in Creamy Caramel Textured card stock, I used card stock scraps to cut the mouth, nose, eyes and  heart.
