Elements of Style RAK

Receiving a handmade card as a random act of kindness (RAK) always touches my heart.  This elegant card was given to me by my friend, Sandy.  She CASE'd (Copy And Share with Everyone) a card by Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Lianne Carper (who CASE'd Demo Tina Dyck, who found it on the internet somewhere . . . and so goes the story of how a cool card goes "viral.")  Here's Lianne's card and instructions on how to make your very own. 

The Elements of Style floral stamp (Wood Mount 118611, Clear Mount 120045) was stamped repeatedly to create a Toile background on Very Vanilla card stock.  It zoomed to "über-cool" when the stamped background was embossed with the Stampin' Up! Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (119976).

Joy Fold Birthday Card

Have you tried your hand at a joyfold card?  It's a simple concept . . . two cards, one larger than the other, intersect to create a whole new look.  Here's a link to a tutorial I shared in an earlier post (with two more joyfold samples for you to view).  Jason Casper (Jason's Stampin' Pad), one of my Stampin' Pretty Pals, produced a wonderful example of a joyfold card in this post which got my wheels turning to try my own.

My smaller card (with the cake) isn't the exact dimension as the tutorial (and I mailed it to my good friend without measuring--oops).  However, feel free to experiment.  Just about any size will accomplish this look.

Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge

My number one tip for producing a card you're proud of--start with a good sketch.  Margaret Moody of the Stampin' Pretty Pals has an incredible sense of style and balance.  Give her sketch below a try and participate in this week's Pals Paper Arts Sketch Challenge (PPA48).  Check out what the PPA Design Team has drummed up using this sketch and see who this week's Featured Stamper is by clicking here.

• The new Stampin' Up! 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon (show here in Marina Mist and available in the new Stampin' Up! 2010-2011 Idea Book and Catalog July 1) is the essence of luscious.  I'm nutty about the white trimmed edges (see photo on the right).
• The two tiny "flower" and stem images are from Playful Pieces, a Hostess Level 3 stamp set (available July 1).  "Playful" is an understatement--it's a load of fun!  Lots of shapes and patterns to mix and match into cakes, presents, balloons, butterflies . . . stay tuned for more samples.
• My original stash of clear Bitty Buttons is almost depleted.  Time to order more!  With a Mini Glue Dot (almost invisible behind the button), you can tuck one of these cuties anywhere for a little zip.

Including a mini note card with a small gift is such a charming touch.  The sentiment and background stamp in today's project are both from Apple Blossoms, a Hostess Level 2 stamp set from the new Stampin' Up! 2010-2011 Idea Book & Catalog.  The customer sales period begins July 1.
