PPA5 Sweet and Easy Halloween Treats

Need to make goodies for a classroom or Halloween party?  These Halloween ideas are quick and fun. My Sweet Centers stamp set and Sweet Treat Cups are getting fantastic mileage.  They both will be available on September 1, with the official debut of the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog. 

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• I pick and choose the colors of jelly beans (or M & M's) to work with the project.  A delightful excuse to eat the rest :)
• To keep the lollipop sticks in place, I used a Pop-Up Glue Dot first and squished in the stick.  A coordinating piece of card stock is adhered on top.  The covered back looks more polished.
• The "pencil box" is a Pillow Box Die, with the curved flaps on one end removed for an opening.  Very easy to snip along the score lines.
• The Metal Edge Tag was the perfect spot to display the "center" part of the Sweet Treats stamp that gets cropped out for the treat cup.  I layered text from the other remaining centers for a colorful combo.

Autumn in Pendant Park

Sympathy and get well cards can be a challenge to create.  I often worry they will be too bold, bright or feminine.  However, offering hope shouldn't be limited to neutrals and formal.  Click here for more sympathy and get well card samples.

I used Autumn Meadows Designer Paper (available Sept. 1 in the Holiday Mini Catalog) to create a soft but colorful card.  Autumn Meadows colors include Chocolate Chip, Really Rust, More Mustard, Taken with Teal and Very Vanilla.  Gorgeous colors to have handy as we head into fall.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• The Pendant Park stamp was first inked in Taken with Teal.  I used Sponge Daubers dipped in Chocolate Chip to apply a contrast around the edges, directly to the rubber before stamping.
• Background stamps like Trés Chic are loaded with sentiments.  Crop one out and let it stand on it's own as I did with "hope."
• Where to place your buttons?  I wiggle them around on top of my card until they say "mama"  (translation: they look good to me).  They are attached with Mini Glue Dots (103683).

Open Sesame

Today's card is the work of Guest Stamper Mike Funke, my friend and Stampin' Pretty Pal (part of my Stampin' Up! downline).  Demonstrators are very enthusiastic about the Sweet Centers stamp set (116521) and new Sweet Treat Cups (116802).  Both will be available Sept. 1 in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog.  However, inquiring minds want to know . . . is there a way to get the candy out without decimating the card? 

Mike contemplated this dilemma and came up with a clever way to keep the card neatly intact and allow easy access to the sweet treasures. Upon seeing his technique,  I immediately dubbed it "Open Sesame."  CLICK HERE for Mike's step by step tutorial.

Mojo Monday and Envelope Tutorial

Welcome to Monday and my weekly Mojo Monday design.  This week's sketch longs for pretty paper and simple elements.  I used the Serene Snowflakes stamp set, another sneak peek from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog (available Sept. 1).  Click here for all my Holiday Mini sneak peek samples.

STAMPIN' PRETTY TIPS:

• Stampin' Up! Craft and Rubber Scissors (103179) easily lop off the "legs" of brads that stick out past your elements.  They came in handy for both the Circle Rhinestone Brads I used.
• For an extra 3-D punch, I stamped the main snowflake twice.  I snipped out and layered the second and adhered over the first.  Very chic!
• Textured card stock for the lower portion (Very Vanilla) and "flag" (Taken with Teal) adds a richness to this project.

At the request of my Stampin' Pretty readers, I shot instructional photos for adding designer paper to the outside of envelope flaps.  It's a beautiful touch and quicker (at least for me) than lining the interior.

I prefer Stampin' Up!'s Craft and Paper Scissors (108360) for trimming Designer Series Paper.  They cut like "buttah."

Apply a strong adhesive to the exterior envelope flap on all sides.  Line up designer paper to cover the flap and adhere.  The designer paper should go snug against the envelope crease.

Flip the envelope over and carefully cut away the excess designer paper. 

Now you have a pretty, coordinated envelope for your card!

Build-A-Bear Girl

Today marks the final Mojo Monday 100th anniversary sketch celebration.  This MOJOMARY sketch is my very own (note that I flipped it).  What an honor to be part of Julee's Mojo Maker team and celebration!

Isn't this Build-A-Bear girl sweet?  She is simple and incredibly fun to put together, too.  Stampin' Up! has created exclusive Build-A-Bear Dies, stamp sets and coordinating designer paper for the Holiday Mini Catalog (available Sept. 1).  Be ready to say "wow!"

• The new Bigz Bear Die offers the bear die cut (4 3/4" high), facial parts (I used Whisper White and Chocolate Chip Textured) and signature Build-A-Bear heart (Pretty in Pink Textured).  TIP:  After cutting the bear in Creamy Caramel Textured card stock, I used card stock scraps to cut the mouth, nose, eyes and  heart.
• The Bigz Bear Essentials Die allowed me to add the shirt, skirt, cuffs and shoes . . . it also includes a jacket, pants and second pair of shoes for a boy counterpart (or a girl, depending on how you want to dress her :)
• TIP:  The Pawsitively Prints Designer Series Paper offers tiny fabric-like prints, ideal for making "clothes."  Pawsitively Prints colors are Pretty in Pink, Old Olive, Ballet Blue, So Saffron, Pumpkin Pie.
• I used the designer paper for her purse, shirt, shoes and the 1 1/4" squares in the background.
• The purse, bow, belt and heart "buckle" are from the Beary Girl Sizzlets Die. 
• The interior gets a splash of pizzazz, too. The "Happy Bearthday" sentiment is from Beary Nice Wishes (available Sept. 1)

The Build-A-Bear dies and stamps are going to be hot sellers.  Wait until you see the Kooky Spooky and Beary Merry outfits.  Stampin' Up! has assured us that the Build-A-Bear line will be extended beyond the Holiday Mini.

My inspiration for today's card came from this little notebook I picked up at the office supply store while shopping for my daughter's school supplies.  I love the subtle contrast of blue and white, especially the heat embossed silhouette of the white tree.

This tri-fold was created using Soft Suede Textured card stock, cut at 12" x 4 1/4".   It's scored at 3 1/4" and 8 3/4".  It folds toward the front and the center piece is a belly band that slides off.  Very slick.  It opens to reveal a gift certificate for one of my customers.

Sweet Centers (available when the Holiday Mini Catalog sales period begins September 1) is such a versatile set.  I have shared the balloon stamp here and you'll soon see the Halloween stamp. For today's project, I used the petal stamp, that you stamp (Crushed Curry), snip out and fit neatly around a Sweet Treat Cup (also available September 1 in packs of  12).  Another stamp in the Sweet Centers set is a big heart, with a center spot for a treat cup (perhaps candy hearts, rose petals, fun buttons or beads). 

TIP:  the 1 3/4" Circle Punch is the perfect cropping tool to add the Sweet Treat Cups.  The treat cups have a removable adhesive so they stay firmly in place.

I also want to introduce you to a new Stampin' Up! exclusive Textured Impressions Embossing Folder called Petals-A-Plenty.  I used it on the Very Vanilla background.  The texture is crisply defined and beautiful.  TIP:  Imagine this in red for the holidays with a dot of white (Uniball Signo Gel Pen, 115021) in the center of each flower.  Mini poinsettia extraordinaire.

Follow-up on Purse Handle

Many of you have asked me about the construction of my purse handle on my post earlier today.  Here's a photo of the back and instructions.  If you have more questions, please leave me a comment below. 

Carolina Buchting was my original inspiration for the purse when I created it last April.  Click for my previous top note purse.  Carolina's tutorial is HERE. 

• The handle was cut with the Bigz Top Note Die.
•  It's 3.5" wide (the short length of the Top Note).
•  I folded it in half and cut off the excess, leaving one and 1 7/8" from where I cut to the top peak of the handle. 
• The two handle pieces were adhered to each other.
• I punched out the opening using the Small Oval Punch
• I scored the base of the handle at 1/2" the long way so that the handle would be flexible on the back curve of the pillow box and sit straight up and down.

I have also seen examples where the Top Note is tucked inside so there is no flap on the back.   I don't have the engineering on that but it's probably a simple modification.

I Feel Pretties!

I Feel Pretties!  Oh, So Pretties!  Be sure to hum the music from the "West Side Story" song throughout this post (and possibly have it playing in your head for the rest of the day.  LOL). 

For today's new Pals Paper Arts Challenge (PPA4), I could make "Anything But a Card."   Check out this week's challenge and play along!  Did you see the Paper Artist Picks yesterday?  Wow!  Congrats to Blair, Lisa and Mariana!

My Stampin' Up! Pretties Kit wanted "in" on the action today and got to shine in three different 3-D projects.  The Pretties Kit contains fabric flowers (that can be dyed), round and halfback pearls,in white and cream, crystal beads and clear rhinestone brads . . . even hat pins.  It was fun to experiment with so many of my little darlings.

This chest of drawers is the perfect little spot to house earrings (below) or a trio of small gifts.  I cut a 2 3/4" x 9 5/8" strip of Night and Day Specialty Paper (available in the Holiday Mini on September 1) and scored it at 1 1/4", 3 5/8", 5 3/4" and 8 1/8".  It wraps around three stacked polka dot matchboxes (also created with Night and Day Specialty Paper) and is attached at the bottom. 

TIP:  The tension on die cutting machines varies.  I get perfect cuts and score lines (no cut through) when I use the  Extended Premium Crease Pad with the Matchbox Die and my Big Shot.

The bead crystals and pearls in these earrings are products of the Pretties Kit, too.  I purchased a few inexpensive earring accessories at Michael's.  My daughter was my mentor and assistant in putting them together.  She's become a jewelry maven and is working on a blog.  My sweet chip off the old block.  I'm so proud.

I think this pillow box has a wonderful "purse-o-nality!"  What a charmer for a bridal shower, Sweet Sixteen or special girly-girl event.  That's a whopping halfback pearl from the Pretties Kit in the middle!

TIP #1:  The dress is simply a Scallop Circle with the sides whittled down.  It was textured before being cropped.
 
TIP #2:  The handle (shaped by the Bigz Top Note Die and Small Oval Punch) and dress were both textured using a Big Shot and the Stampin' Up! Finial Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. This pattern and rich texture make my heart go pitter pat.

Sneak Peek: Delightful Decorations

Meet the Mojo Monday Sketch Day 3 by Teresa Kline, one of my fellow Mojo Makers!  It's my first Christmas card of the year and introduces the Delightful Decorations stamp set and coordinating ornament punch (arriving in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog on September 1).   I was in hot pursuit of the stamp set and punch the moment I spotted them in the Mini.

The Delightful Decorations stamp set offers four different ornaments that are easily cropped out with the new punch and three smaller circle stamps for layering and beyond.  There are coordinating rub-ons (Merry & Bright, 116801) offered in Silver and Whisper White. Very chic and great tools for easy and pretty holiday cards.

Mojo 100th Sketch Parade Continues

Today is Day 2 of a Seven-Day Mojo Monday celebration of Julee Tilman's 100th mojo sketch.  I'm going to do my best to attempt them all (in addition to the Pals Paper Arts Challenge on Thursday).   I adore challenges.

I get to introduce another new stamp set from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini, Autumn Splendor (available September 1).  This set includes three beautiful leaf patterns plus a double acorn stamp.  Gorgeous for fall.  Amazing with the coordinating Autumn Meadows Designer Series Paper (also available September 1).

• The leaf was inked in VersaMark and heat embossed with Black Embossing Powder for a lovely shine and raised texture.
• SO COOL:  Have you noticed the perforated edge on the Top Note Die?  It's incredibly easy to remove with Paper Snips (103579) and looks rich when layered over a a full (uncut) Top Note Die.  I like the way the black Top Note peeks behind the Autumn Traditions Designer Series Paper.  Learned this little trick at the Stampin' Up! Convention.
• Two Stampin' Up! must haves . . . the Modern Label Punch and Basic Black 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon.  They bring this design to life!

Let's Celebrate Mojo Monday 100

Mojo Monday turns 100 today and this week there will be a new mojo-licious sketch to try every day.  As part of the celebration, each one of the Mojo Monday design team members contributed a mojo sketch.  My mojo sketch will be on Sunday, August 23.  Happy Dance :)

• Cut Very Vanilla card stock to 12" x 4 1/4"
• Score at 4 1/2", and 10"
• Fold scores to the front of the card.  Add Chocolate Chip Designer Series Paper (stripe and polka dots) to the front panels.
• The Party Hearty stamp set has an adorable cupcake.  I stamped it twice on Very Vanilla, first in Chocolate Chip ink (on the main panel) and second in Cameo Coral.
• The Cameo Coral version was snipped out (Paper Snips are divine for this kind of detail work, 102579), and adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals.
• The candle from the set was inked in Chocolate Chip and stamped on Very Vanilla.  I also snipped it before adhering.
• I layered the main panel over a rectangle of Barely Banana. 
• A Latte Designer Button was attached with a Mini Glue Dot.  TIP:  It's easy to pull apart a Clear Brad.  Lift the little "prongs" and the rhinestone comes free.
• TIP:  The medium rhinestone was a perfect fit in the middle of this button.  It's attached with a Mini Glue Dot.  Love the Latte Buttons?  Get them FREE on qualifying orders.  Click here for  the Stampin' Up! Growing Up Promotion.
• Using a Big Shot, I cut the larger Cameo Coral Scallop with the Bigz Scallop Circle Die #2.
• "Celebrate You" (also from Party Hearty) was inked in Chocolate Chip and stamped on Barely Banana.  It coordinates with and was cropped with the Scallop Circle Punch.
• The present (same set) was inked in Chocolate Chip and stamped on Cameo Coral.  TIP:  By punching it out with a 3/4" Circle Punch, it layers neatly over the sentiment and adds a dose of 3-D.
•  The interior is lined with more Chocolate Chip Designer Series Paper. 
• A strip of Cameo Coral is dolled up with another stamp from Party Hearty and a 3/4" Circle Punch.
• For just a touch of pizzazz, I added Barely Banana and Cameo Coral Boho Blossoms to the gift certificate section.  The center  of the flower is a Chocolate Chip 1/4" Circle.
• Very Vanilla Taffeta Ribbon is a pretty way to keep the card closed.

Gobble, Gobble Arrives Sept. 1

Does this sketch look familiar?  I liked the Splitcoast Sketch Challenge (SC241) so much this week that I tried the layout again.  However, it's easy to see how different colors, paper and stamps add up to an entirely different look.  Today's sneak peeks include a new single stamp, Gobble Gobble, and Autumn Meadows Designer Series Paper.

• Stampin' Up! Markers are the worker bees of the day.  Really Rust and More Mustard were applied with the "paintbrush" end of the marker directly to the rubber of this proud turkey.  TIP:  Not only could I get multi-color images using markers, I "excluded" the "give thanks" sentiment by leaving it un-inked.
• Using a Chocolate Chip Marker, I "tipped" the ends of the feathers for extra definition. TIP:  Huff on the inked rubber a few times to keep it moist before stamping.
• Opposing corners were cropped with a Corner Rounder Punch.
• A Sponge Dauber and Chocolate Chip ink give the edges an antiqued look, to mirror the feel of the designer paper.
• Chocolate Chip Taffeta is wrapped around the base.  TIP:  Taffeta is my favorite Stampin' Up! ribbon.  There are eight pretty colors that are easy to tie and cut very cleanly. 
• Three 1/2" Circles were popped out of Really Rust, Taken with Teal and More Mustard Textured card stock.
• The turkey panel (3 3/4" x 2") was layered on Really Rust, also cropped on opposing corners.
• Two patterns from Stampin' Up!'s Holiday Mini Autumn Meadows Designer Series Paper were layered over rectangles of Taken with Teal.  Aren't these colors (Taken with Teal, Really Rust, Chocolate Chip, More Mustard, Very Vanilla) and patterns lovely?  TIP: There's a coordinating stamp set, Autumn Splendor, in the Holiday Mini, too!  You'll see it soon :)
• The patterned paper panels were layered over a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card base in More Mustard card stock.
• The Gobble, Gobble sentiment (part of the turkey stamp) gets in the show by being brushed with a Taken with Teal Marker (not inking the turkey . . . nifty :).  I stamped it on Taken with Teal and gave it a little freedom with a Small Oval Punch.  TIP:  The tone on tone look of matching ink and card stock is so sophisticated.
• The sentiment received a little 3-D action with the help of a couple Stampin' Dimensionals.
