Branch Out in Regal Rose

With crabapple trees in spectacular bloom around my neighborhood, I thought I could use a little artistic license by including Regal Rose on my Branch Out tree.  All colors for my design were part of the Kwerner Color Inspiration #51 (Chocolate, Mustard, Rose and White).  TIP:  By using plenty of white, the feel of this card remained fresh and spring-like.

• I stamped the Branch Out tree in Chocolate Chip on Whisper White card stock.
• I layered the "leaves" in Regal Rose
• The birdhouse was stamped in More Mustard.  TIP:  I missed the branch I was headed for (apparently too confident at the time).  A Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip Marker saved the day by allowing me to connect it to the tree.
• The top left corner was cropped with a Corner Rounder Punch.  TIP:  A little asymmetry can add a subtle splash to a basic card.
• Layers of More Mustard and Regal Rose card stock were adhered to a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card base of Whisper White (scored at the top).  The bottom corners were shaped with a Corner Rounder Punch.
• Before attaching the tree image, I wrapped luscious Regal Rose 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon around the card base.
• Three More Mustard brads provide a sweet detail and pop of color.
• The sentiment is from Stampin' Up!'s Sweet Serendipity.  I stamped it in both Chocolate Chip and More Mustard. 
• The chocolate version was given a new "figure" using a Large Oval Punch.
• The More Mustard image was snipped out and mounted on the chocolate version with Stampin' Dimensionals.  TIP:  Stampin' Dimensionals are easy to cut and customize to any shape.
• The new Scallop Oval Punch (exclusively in the Stampin' Up! Occasions Mini Catalog--click to download) coordinates beautifully as a Regal Rose background mat for the sentiment.

• I flipped the envie over and cut to remove the excess around the flap. 
• To create the pretty white edge, I carefully cut off about 1/4" of the top of the designer paper. 
• I adhered the liner only at the top.  It will stay in place perfectly.
• Using a Scor-Pal (www.ucutathome.com), I added a crease on the DP for easy closure.

Mojo Monday Sketch 86

Welcome to another Mojo Monday morning!  In an earlier post, I used the Wide Oval Punch to create a vase for this card.  Today I fashioned a vase with the same punch by "subtracting" from the card stock.  Here's today's Mojo Monday Sketch 86 (MOJO86)

• Using Stampin' Up!'s Wide Oval and Horizontal Slot Punch I cropped out my vase outline.  TIP:  To produce the wider "lip" at the top of the vase, the slot punch was punched twice, moving slightly left and right.
• A Pocket Silhouettes stamp was inked in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink and stamped on Really Rust card stock. 
• I stamped another design from Pocket Silhouettes in Chocolate Chip Craft Ink on Very Vanilla twice.  TIP:  One of the advantages of Stampin' Up!'s Craft Ink (as opposed to Classic Ink, which I use for most purposes) is that it's stickier so you can emboss it.  I sprinkled Clear Embossing Powder over all three images and heat embossed for a raised and shiny finish.
• My vase outline was adhered over the center image using Stampin' Dimensionals.  Vintage Brads doll up the corners.
• To produce a distressed edge on the side images, I used a Cutter Kit.  Excellent results and saves my fingernails.
• The Very Vanilla card base is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2". It's topped (from top to bottom) with Really Rust Textured card stock, a strip of Textured Chocolate Chip, Good Morning Sunshine Designer Series Paper and a sweet eyelet border in Really Rust.
• The sentiment is from Chit Chat Rub-Ons.  TIP:  This set of rub-ons comes with one sheet each of Chocolate Chip and Whisper White.  Just about every occasion is addressed and they are simple to align and transfer.

Happy Mother's Day!

I want to wish my virtual stamping buddies a Happy Mother's Day!  My family and I will be visiting my husband's Grandmother Rosella (age 100--see this post for her special card) Sunday morning.  She's feisty, charming and has a memory extraordinaire.  I love her childhood stories.  She's the proud matriarch of five generations.

We next zip over to my sister's to have a family "tea" hosted by my niece, Mary Lee (from New "Yawk" City)--the consummate gourmet and garnish maven.  I get the day off--hee hee!

He's Back!

My stamping friend Mike Funke (you raved about his past work) has two more amazing cards to share as today's Guest Stamper.  When he emailed these très cool beauties to me using the Stampin' Up! Thoughts and Prayers stamp set (113252), my mouth dropped and I said "yeah, baby!"  Does this guy know how to take card design to a new level or what!

From Mike:  This mosaic is great for all those tiny scraps we all save!.  The card is made of Very Vanilla card stock.  I used a Making Memories 1/2" punch and punched all the squares.  Attached them to a piece of Basic Black card stock.  Then inked up the tree stamp with Basic Black Classic ink.  The flower is made from a Creamy Caramel punch from the Trio Flower punch and a Basic Black punch off center. A Basic Black brad finishes it off.  It is mounted to the card on a Stampin' Dimensional.  Strips of Basic Black card stock are topped with strips of Creamy Caramel. 

From Mike:  The "Thinking of You" card was created on Whisper White card stock, front and back corners were rounded.  I printed the tree stamp four times--once on YoYo yellow, once on Kiwi Kiss, and twice on Old Olive.  The Scallop Oval Punch (114889, Occasions Mini catalog) was used to punch out the left and right sides of the tree from Old Olive and the center from Kiwi Kiss.  The three ovals were matched up with the impression on the Yoyo Yellow card stock and mounted using Stampin' Dimensionals.  Thinking of You... was printed in Basic Black on Whisper White card stock, notched and mounted on the YoYo Yellow card stock.  The YoYo Yellow was notched with the Ticket Corner Punch and mounted to the Kiwi Kiss card stock.  5/8" white Grosgrain ribbon was tied around the Kiwi Kiss and the entire section was then fastened to the Whisper White card stock base.

Bella for Grandma Rosella

My husband's Grandmother Rosella turned 100 last January.  She can recall her early childhood years and "hangs" with the best of conversations at the family gatherings.  She truly is the epitome of Mother's Day with her "flock" of five generations of children.

Bella Bleu Design Paper was my color and pattern inspiration for today's projects.  Rosie loves candy and will get plenty more beyond these nuggets . . . however, she enjoys crafts and will appreciate the adorable matchbox.

CARD:

• In playing along with today's Splitcoast Stampers' Ways to Use Challenge (WT271) to use Kraft card stock, I began with a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" card base of Kraft, scored on the side.
• I layered Bella Bleu Designer paper (note a different pattern was used on the bottom) over Not Quite Navy Textured card stock (love this color--beautiful depth)!
• The long stem rose is from Embrace Life.  It's inked in Not Quite Navy and stamped on Very Vanilla.
• I matted the rose on Not Quite Navy Textured card stock and added three matching brads on the side.  TIP:  I used a Paper Piercer and Template from my Crafter's Tool Kit to precisely line up the brads.
• The matted stem is layered over a horizontal panel of Not Quite Navy Textured card stock and a delicious piece of Kraft Taffeta Ribbon.
• My Mother's Day sentiment is from All Holidays.  It's inked in Not Quite Navy and stamped on Kraft card stock. 
• Grabbing my Paper Piercer and Template, I added a border and adhered the sentiment with Stampin' Dimensionals.

BOX:

• I used the Matchbox Bigz XL Die (Occasions Mini Catalog) to cut the box base in Very Vanilla and sliding top in Bella Bleu Designer Series Paper.
• The Flowers in Silhouette stamp was inked in Night of Navy and stamped on another pretty pattern from Bella Bleu.  It's popped out with a Wide Oval Punch.
• Kraft Taffeta Ribbon (so easy to work with!!!) was the final touch.
• I used the same Bella Bleu Designer Paper to wrap some Hershey's Nuggets.  TIP:  An inch is just the right width.

Summer Sun Birthday

I am always inspired by color combinations and patterns in fashion and home décor catalogs.  I have held on to the one featured below, admiring the bold floral pattern of the chair.  When I saw this wonderful Summer Sun design in Stampin' Up!'s Pink Flamingo Designer Series, I knew it would be one of the first patterns I played with.

This week's Splitcoast Sketch Challenge (SC227) and Stampin' Up!'s Pink Flamingo Designer Paper were meant to be together.  Whenever I see multiple layers on a card, I immediately start to think about combining Designer Series Paper to create beautifully coordinated elements. TIP:  When mixing patterns, I like to balance a small and large print but don't be afraid to experiment.

• I started with a 5 1/4" x 5 1/4" Whisper White card base, scored at the top.
• The large Summer Sun floral pattern and Chocolate Chip are matted on top.
• The darling daisy is courtesy of my Big Shot Die-Cut Machine and Bigz Daisies Flower #2.  The larger daisy is cropped in Chocolate Chip and the smaller is cropped in the smaller print from Pink Flamingo.
• A Chocolate Chip Corduroy Button anchors the center.  Très chic!
• The balance of the card is constructed per the sketch.  TIP:  An Eyelet Border Punch produces a pretty white detail on the vertical panel.
• Chocolate Chip 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon lends a delicious touch.
• The chocolate birthday sentiment is a Stampin' Up! Fashion District Rub-On.  Crisp, easy to place.  Love it!

A lined envelope (Whisper White, 5 1/2" x 5 1/2") adds a delightful dash of polish.  TIP:  Using a pencil, I traced the envelope flap onto the opposite side of the Designer Paper.  I trimmed along the trace marks, going a little narrower on each side at the point where the designer paper inserts into the envelope. 

TIP:  You don't need to line all the way to the bottom of the envie--just deep enough to cover the white.  Simply lick the gummed area of the envelope to adhere, fold and score.  You can add a little adhesive to close the flap when you are ready to mail.

Simple Hearts

• I stamped the Love You Much heart six times, twice each in Cameo Coral, Garden Green and Ballet Blue.  TIP:  Colors are all part of this week's Splitcoast Color Challenge CC217.
• Each popped out from the Heart to Heart Punch ready to go.
• I added the sentiment from Full of Life (currently on the Stampin' Up! Dormant Stamp List but available for purchase) in Garden Green. TIP:  Grab a Stamp-a-ma-jig to land the sentiment exactly where you want.
• I inked just the word "love" on the sentiment in Cameo Coral and stamped it again.  Using Paper Snips, I shaped it and gave it a little 3-D action with a Stampin' Dimensional.
• The hearts were adhered to Whisper White card stock that I scored twice at the top with a Scor-Pal (www.ucutathome.com) and cropped the corner with a Corner Rounder Punch.
• The Rich Regals Brads accents the top corner.

• Using Trendy Trees stamp set, I stamped the trunk in Chocolate Chip and "leaves" in Sage Shadow on Whisper White card stock.
• A coordinating Stampin' Up! Chocolate Chip Marker tapped out the dotted border.
• A Ticket Corner Punch cropped out an opening on each corner for a Pretty in Pink Brad with Chocolate Chip card stock below.
• I layered three Pretty in Pink Textured Boho Blossom punches over Sage Shadow Textured card stock.  They were topped with 1/2" Circles of Textured Chocolate Chip.
• The Whisper White card base (4 1/4" x 5 1/2", scored at the top) is topped with a charming Pretty in Pink pattern from Stampin' Up!'s Tea Party Designer Series. 
• Along the left side of the card is a vertical strip of a Chocolate Chip pattern from Good Morning Sunshine.   A Whisper White Scallop Border is tucked underneath.
• The bottom right offers more textured card stock in Chocolate Chip.  The crisp, white sentiment  is from Chit Chat Rub-Ons.  TIP:  Rub-ons are a breeze to add to textured card stock
• The final touch is my beloved Stampin' Up! Taffeta Ribbon in Pretty in Pink.

Marvelous Fish

Ready for a little underwater adventure?  Grab a Circle Scissor Plus, a Word Window Punch and Window Sheets and you'll have a deep sea menagerie at your fingertips.

• I used a Circle Scissor Plus to cut a 3" circle into Whisper White card stock.  TIP:  Here's a tutorial with suggestions for working with the Circle Scissor Plus.
• Using only the remaining frame, a Word Window Punch created the lid and base of the "bowl."
• Stampin' Up!'s Polka Dot Background (109276) stamp was inked in Kiwi Kiss and stamped on the frame.  TIP:  The Polka Dot Background stamp is not in the catalogs.  However, it's still available on the Dormant List.  Click to download Stampin' Up! Dormant Stamp List.
• I backed the bowl with a Medium Window Sheet (Occasions Mini Catalog) for a glassy look.  TIP:  Mini glue dots are perfect for adhering window sheets.
• The Just Beachy fish (Occasions Mini Catalog) were cropped and layered on Pacific Point Textured card stock.  TIP:  To create waves, I used a 1/2" Circle Punch.
• Baja Breeze Textured card stock offers a snazzy contrast when backed to Pacific Point.
• I adhered the frame to the Pacific Point layer using Pop-Up Glue Dots (the big guys).  TIP:  This gives a lift to the Window Sheet and adds a cool 3-D effect.
• Three stars were cropped in Baja Breeze Textured card stock using Stampin' Up!'s Star Punch.  TIP:  One star is layered over a clear button to mirror the look of the "glassy" bowl.
• The completed bowl and frame are layered over Kiwi Kiss Textured card stock, Riding Hood Red and a 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" Baja Breeze Textured card base.
• Another snippet of Kiwi Kiss card stock is layered at the bottom and Pacific Point 5/8" Striped Grosgrain adds a snappy polish.
• The "marvelous" sentiment from Bright Delights (I love these colored rub-ons) was layered over the window sheet.  It's floating.  How aquatic!

Mother's Day Floral

I saw an amazing watercolor technique using this Fifth Avenue flower on Patty Bennett's blog.  However, Patty used Shimmery White card stock (101910) and I didn't have any.  I did my best to recreate the look using inspiration from Patty's technique and Stampin' Up!'s Watercolor Paper as a replacement for the Shimmery White.  I'm happy with the cool, improvised results.

To start, I stamped the big rose from Fifth Avenue Floral in Versamark on Watercolor Paper.  I next heat embossed the image with Clear Embossing Powder.  Using an Aqua Painter, I did a full "wash" over the embossed rose using Summer Sun ink.  I did not mist the image as Patti does in her tutorial. Touches of Really Rust and Pumpkin Pie were added randomly with the Aqua Painter to create shading and depth.

After the image air dried, I snipped it out and adhered it with Stampin' Dimensionals to a horizontal banner of Always Artichoke Textured card stock followed by Summer Sun and a Pumpkin Pie Eyelet Border.  TIP:  Pumpkin Pie Grosgrain Ribbon provides a striking contrast against Always Artichoke.

The Very Vanilla card base is 4 1/4" x 5 1/2", scored at the top.  It's topped with Very Vanilla that was given a pretty texture using Texturz Plates and a Big Shot Die-Cut Machine.  Summer Sun card stock is sandwiched between.

I stamped Very Vanilla with the rose stamp in Really Rust and Summer Sun before adding the mother's day sentiment in Always Artichoke.  I discovered this idea in this post by Carrie Fitch, one of my Stampin' Pretty Pals.  TIP:  A Ticket Corner Punch and Always Artichoke Brad provides an interesting detail to the corner before matting the sentiment on Summer Sun.

TIP:  I used a Paper Piercer and Template (Stampin' Up! Crafter's Tool Kit) to precisely align the three brads.

My color inspiration was from today's Splitcoast Inspiration Challenge IC178 and this prom dress.  I also combined a Card Positioning Systems Sketch CPS113 and the Our Creative Corner Mother's Day Challenge.
