Happy Birthday, Kim!

Bravo Burgundy and More Mustard are unlikely color partners (and, yes, I discovered these colors together in J. Crew).  However, I wanted something unique and pretty for my friend and a member of my Stampin' Pretty Pals, Kim.  Check out these adorable coasters she shares on her blog, Stamp, Scrap and Get Kreative.

This interesting layout from Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge charmed me, too.  The card base is 4.25 x 5.5 in Stampin' Up!'s luxurious Bravo Burgundy card stock (scored at the top).  The left corner circle is in More Mustard, cut and embossed with Circle Nestabilities. TIP:  Dry Embossing with Stampin' Up!'s Floral Frenzy Classy Brass Template looks striking on textured card stock.  I dotted 1/4" circles in mustard along the edge for a little amusement.

The sentiment is from Enjoy Every Moment (I'm a fan of big block sentiments) and is stamped in Bravo Burgundy on Very Vanilla.  Burgundy and mustard layers follow.  The corners are wrapped with a touch of More Mustard 1/4" Grosgrain.  A Flower Fusion felt flower and Circle Rhinestone dress up the letter "o."

I tucked in "every moment" (Bravo Burgundy ink on More Mustard) and jazzed the bottom using a Scallop Edge Punch. TIP:  Think balance when embellishing.  The larger fusion flower mirrors the "o" in "enjoy" and is layered on 1 1/4" Mustard and 1 3/8" Burgundy Circle Punches.  I attached this final element with Stampin' Dimensionals for a three dimensional pop!

Holiday Magnets

Need a snappy stocking stuffer or quick gift for a co-worker?  These Holiday Trinkets images were converted to magnets using a Scallop Circle Punch and Avery Magnet Sheets (#3270, available at Staples).  Zippity zip.

The scallop shapes popped out from the thin magnetic sheets very easily (like card stock) and were adhered for a perfect fit with matching card stock punches.  According to the Avery package, the magnets are strong enough to hold up paper on most metal surfaces.  However, when I tested them, I learned they will only support a sheet or two.  Still functional but not heavy duty :)

Stampin' Up!'s Holiday Trinket stamps (a handy little set for $15.95) were inked in coordinating colors and each design got a little something extra to distinguish their personalities (details listed below). 

TIP:  I attached the magnets with Dotto (a repositional adhesive) to a piece of thin cardboard (the stuff you get when you order Stampin' Up! Designer Series Paper--I save and "re-purpose" it).  This keeps the look neat and you simply slip them into a medium flat cello bag.

Using my Big Shot (click for Big Shot 101) and Top Note Die, I clipped out the topper using Holiday Treasures Designer Series Paper.  TIP:  When scored the long way, the Top Note die cuts fit Stampin' Up!'s Medium Cello Bags.  When cut the short way, they fit the Small Cello Bags.  Very cool.

I added a Season of Cheer Rub-On sentiment and Whisper White Taffeta (my favorite Stampin' Up! ribbon--so easy to tie) wraps things up.

Snowman With a Punch

This is one of the punchiest cards ever!  Six different Stampin' Up! punches!  And, I adore the color combination . . . .  Baja Breeze, Kraft and Real Red.  Very jazzy.

My snowman evolved from Whisper White, punched with 1 3/4", 1 3/8" and 1" Circle Punches.  I sponged the sides with a touch of Baja Breeze ink.  His nose is a wee bit of Pumpkin Pie.  I added Black Brads for his eyes (micro brads from www.justbrads.com) and Stampin' Up!'s Black Brads (a tad bigger) for the buttons (Vintage Collection).  TIP:  Only the center circle of my snowman is popped up on Stampin' Dimentionals, to give him a little girth.

A snippet of Real Red 1/4" Grosgrain becomes a dashing scarf to coordinate with this cool dude's Real Red hat (on Stampin' Dimensionals).  I used a tiny piece of Basic Black for a scarf "buckle."  TIP:  Card stock for the hat was a scrap I previously had stamped in Real Red with Kindred Spirits but didn't end up using.  With a 3/4" Square Punch, I snapped out his hat and layered a sliver for the brim.  

Poetic Artistry's Mojo Monday sketch challenge filled in the details for the layout.  The snowman is mounted on Kraft paper (I doodled on the border with a Stampin' Up! Basic Black Magic Marker) and adhered to Real Red with Stampin' Dimensionals.

Isn't this Baja Breeze designer paper pretty?  It's from the Holiday Happenings Bundle (Hostess Level 3), is matted on Real Red and a 5 25 x 5.25 card base of Kraft card stock (scored at the top).  TIP:  The sweet stars really rev up the red and each hangs on with a Stampin' Dimensional.

The sentiment is from an incredibly versatile Hostess Level 1 stamp set, Best Yet.  It's inked with Jet Black Stazon (very crisp) and stamped on Whisper White.  I added some Baja and Real Red "dots,"  formed by a 1/4" Circle Punch.  After sponging the sides in Baja Breeze, I adhered the white layer with dimensionals to Baja Breeze and Real Red.

TIP:  A simple and very polished finish for your holiday cards is to add zip to the envelopes (Stampin' Up! Whisper White 5.5 x 5.5 envies used here).  I blocked off the flap (simply sliding paper underneath and along the crease) and stamped the Real Red snowflake from Best Wishes and More.

Oh, and I decided to update my blog colors for the holidays. My banner tulip is sporting "Riding Hood Red!"  Woo hoo :)

Scandinavian in Silver

I adore Scandinavian Season (Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini).  The stamps are fun to color, emboss or simply use as a line image.  And, who can resist those charming mittens? 

Today's post offers loads of pictures and ideas for using this set and making the most of rub-ons (special offer coming Nov. 10), designer series paper and Stampin' Up! accessories this holiday season.  Email me your name and address (US only) if you would like a FREE copy of Stampin' Up!'s Holiday Mini catalog.

Let's start with Hershey's nuggets (which I vigorously tested for safety during the creation of this project).  I played dress-up with each by wrapping them in 1 1/8" x 3" strips of Ski Slope Designer Series Paper.  TIP:  The pack includes patterns in Baja Breeze, Whisper White, Real Red, Old Olive and Chocolate Chip.

 

I purchased this tin at www.papertreyink.com. TIP:  You could simply add pretty ribbon at this point and be done in a flash. 

However, I couldn't resist adding these Old Saint Nick Rub-On snowflakes to the clear window.

TIP:  The beauty of rub-ons is that they transfer to nonporous surfaces like glass, photos, clipboards, candles and more.  This handy tin can be used time and time again.

Using a Scallop Edge Punch and Real Red card stock, I added a band to the box, followed by Baja Breeze 1" Double-Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon.  The Scandinavian Season mittens were inked in Versamark, stamped on Real Red and heat embossed with Silver Embossing Powder.  I snipped my sweet mitties out and married them with Silver Cord. 

The sentiment combines a Season of Cheer Rub-On and a 1 3/8" Circle Punch of Real Red adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals to a White Scallop Circle Punch.  TIP:  Season of Cheer Rub-Ons offer a number of cool sentiments that coordinate with Stampin' Up! Punches. 

The highlight of this card is the delightful Scandinavian Season tree, heat embossed in silver on Real Red card stock.  I matted the panel on Baja Breeze and Old Olive.  A single stick-on rhinestone adds a smidgeon of bling.

My layout went together in a snap using this week's Splitcoast Sketch Challenge SC201.  TIP:  All Splitcoast Challenges are conveniently located on my left side bar.  The top panel is a dishy stripe from Stampin' Up!'s Ski Slope Designer Series Paper backed by Real Red.  I added a 1/4" strip of Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon to the top.  TIP:  Challenged by ribbon?  Check out this Stay Put Bow Video (my BFF).

The lower panel is a crisp backdrop in Whisper White Textured card stock.  Using a Template and Paper Piercer (Crafter's Tool Kit), I added a corner of Styled Silver Brads.  For a tad more metal, I added a Hodgepodge Hardware Styled Silver Label Holder, layered over a Whisper White sentiment from Old Saint Nick Rub-Ons and Old Olive card stock (below the rub-on) peeking through.

Seeing Spots Tree

 

A little diversion today from my holiday blitz since Luke was born a few days earlier than I expected and I wanted to zip a "baby" card off to his parents--very hip and artistic people.  So I hopped outside the box from traditional pastels and baby images and decided to play with another of Stampin' Up!'s Classy Brass Templates, Seeing Spots.  TIP:  Guess what . . . you could change up the colors and rearrange the circles to a trianglular shape--Voilà!--rockin' Christmas tree!

My inspiration for this card is from Karren, who created a breathtaking star book for my sister-in-law Karol, battling breast cancer.  Here's a link to a slide show (on my niece's adorable Kween Bee blog) showcasing more details from this book and the wonderful outpouring of kind creations from the virtual stamping community.  Thank you to all of you who contributed.

Today's 4.25 x 5.5 Pumpkin Pie card base is topped with Whisper White and Temptiing Turquoise card stock.  I layered a strip of Kiwi Kiss along the bottom, dolled up with a Chit Chat Whisper White Rub-On and four very Tempting Turquoise Brads.  TIP:  Want your little brads to line up like soldiers at attention?  Use a Paper Piercer and Template (Stampin' Up!'s Crafter's Tool Kit) first for precise hole placement.

My PUNCH BUNCH of circles came out to play (sizes listed below).  The real fun was in using the Seeing Dots Brass Template to pierce  and dry emboss the snazzy details.  TIP:  For the smallest holes, I used the smaller needle (the Paper Piercer is too big) included in the Crafter's Tool Kit.  Three of the circles are popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals.  I layered all circles on the "naked" tree from Season of Friendship.  It was a lovely guide for placement.

A quick strip of Pumpkin Pie runs across the base (secret--this was done after I muffed my cuts for threading a ribbon through--yes, it happens to all of us).  Tempting Turquoise 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon (exquisite color to have) skibbles across on top and three more 1/2" circles add "punch."

And the Winner IS?

Thanks to all of you who participated in my blog candy giveaway.  264 comments at noon today.  I'm blown away.  Due to the amount of comments, I wasn't able to respond individually to all the participants.  However, I want to assure you that I read and savored every word. 

The general consensus?  Stampin' Up!'s retired In Colors were missed by you the most . . . many had a soft spot for Soft Sky and a passion for Pomegranate.  Overwhelmingly, the new die cut stamps, scallop punches and the Top Note Bigz die were the favorites of the Fall/Winter Catalog releases. I couldn't agree more!

Holiday Blitzen

Just as I promised, today continues my holiday blitz of ideas, with gift tags, envelopes and boxes in the Stampin' Pretty crystal ball.  Quick reminder that my Blog Candy Giveaway ends on Nov. 5 at noon, CST.  Be sure to play along!  I'll announce a winner shortly thereafter.

To kick things off for today's card, Stampin' Up!'s Best Wishes & More snowflake was inked in Close to Cocoa and stamped on Very Vanilla.  TIP:  I felt cocoa would be a bit softer color than the "match" of Chocolate Chip and wouldn't compete as much with the Chocolate Chip Rub-Ons. 

Using a 1 1/4" Circle Punch, the snowflake was transformed into an ornament and matted on a 1 3/8" Circle of Chocolate Chip.  A stick-on red rhinestone sparkles at the center of each ornament and Riding Hood Red Taffeta Ribbon adds the impression of hanging decorations.  I got this fun idea from Kim, one of the Stampin' Pretty Pals, in my Stampin' Up! demonstrator group. 

The 4.25 x 5.5 Riding Hood Red card base is topped with Very Vanilla. I clipped the bottom right corner using a Corner Rounder Punch.  Stampin' Up!'s Word Flurries Rub-Ons shout out the names of the reindeer along the top in Chocolate Chip (also comes with an identical sheet of images in Whisper White). 

Riding Hood Red card stock gets "roughed up" using Stampin' Up!'s Tearing Edge.  TIP:  I like things precise, so when I tear . . . I like it (boringly) consistent.  The Tearing Edge is the COOL TOOL for me.  It's easy to use and offers two different edge treatments.  Just line up your card stock and pull along the edge of your choice.  Zip zippity.

I cropped the right corner of the Riding Hood Red with a Corner Rounder Punch. The sleigh and reindeer are from Word Flurries Rub-On's.  I dotted the sleigh with stick-on red rhinestones to mirror the centers of the ornaments.  Razzle dazzle.   A big clear button with a snippet of hemp twine jazzes up the left corner.

Frosty Winter Skaters

My Winter Post skaters were inked in Chocolate Chip and stamped on Whisper White card stock.  I clipped each corner with a Ticket Corner Punch (107214) and adhered the image with Stampin' Dimensionals to layers of Chocolate Chip (also clipped on the corners) and Kiwi Kiss. 

TIP:  When adding the dimensionals to the back of the skaters, I purposely left the center clear when it was mounted on the Chocolate Chip.  This left a perfect little channel for my Tangerine Tango Striped Grosgrain (111371) "scarf" to slip through.

My sketch was inspired by this charming layout from Poetic Artistry.  Tucked behind the skaters is a horizontal panel of Stampin' Up!'s Frosty Day Designer Series paper matted on Tangerine Tango card stock.  A scrumptious Frosty Day snowflake pattern (Tangerine Tango, Bashful Blue, Close to Cocoa, Kiwi Kiss) is layered on Tangerine Tango card stock and a 4.25 x 5.5 card base of Whisper White.

The Chocolate Chip sentiment is from Word Flurries Rub-Ons (111417), which includes one sheet each of Chocolate Chip and Whisper White.  It's snapped out with a 1 1/4" Circle Punch (104403) adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals to a 1 3/8" Circle (104401) of Bashful Blue, followed by a Scalloped Kiwi Kiss Circle (109043).

The PERFECT TOUCH?  These jazzy white pearls from Stampin' Up!'s Pretties Kit (109114) on the ribbon and center of the sentiment.  TIP:  The pearls are flat on the bottom and hang on with confidence when combined with Stampin' Up!'s Mini Glue dots (103683, use several for the "big boys").

It's time for me to skidaddle on getting my Christmas cards rolling.  I have planned a blitz of holiday cards and ideas to share over the next week (and beyond--always with a chance of a few diversions).  Stay tuned.

I layered Whisper White Little Felt Flurries (Item #113697, also includes Riding Hood Red and Baja Breeze) on 1 1/4" punches of Textured Riding Hood Red card stock, following by a Scallop Square of Baja Breeze.  TIP:  The top snowflake was calling for a tidtad of extra attention, so a Ruby Red Button and a sliver of Old Olive card stock (as thread) were added.

The 4.25 x 5.5 card base of Baja Breeze is topped with a delightful pattern from Stampin' Up!'s Holiday Treasures Designer Series paper (bottom) and Riding Hood Red Textured card stock at the top.  I layered a crisp, white Season of Cheer Rub-On (112843, includes one sheet each of Whisper White and Chocolate Chip) on the top corner.

 This quick and easy card was wrapped up with a luscious piece of Stampin' Up!'s 5/8" Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon.  TIP:  I used the rotary cutter from the Cutter Kit (Item #106958) to cut a small slice on the left side to neatly slip the ribbon through and wrap around the entire card front. The sketch was inspired by Splitcoast Sketch Challenge 200.
